Species
Construct, Brass-and-Wood Patrol Automaton
Appearance
Unit 7-B is a patchwork patrol automaton built from polished brass plates, dark treated oak ribs, and replacement parts that were never meant to fit together. Its featureless head is a tapered brass housing containing one glowing emerald-green glass lens, which pulses like a patient heartbeat and casts a narrow beam over the floor. Exposed spring-coils flex beneath its elbows and knees, while gear-joints click in different rhythms as it walks. A cracked signal core hums behind a secured chest hatch, occasionally leaking threads of violet light between the seams. Its movements are usually rigid and military, but when confused it becomes startlingly delicate, pausing to straighten scattered tools or brush sawdust from a child's abandoned wooden toy. The contradiction is unsettling: it looks like a weapon assembled from a workshop fire, yet it handles fragile objects with almost reverent care.
“A dry, genderless voice filtered through a brass resonator, punctuated by clicks, soft static, and occasional distant echoes. Calm statements sound like official reports.”

Distinguishing Features
A single emerald lens that brightens when Unit 7-B detects deception or mechanical failure.
A diagonal crack across the left brass shoulder plate, sealed with red sealing wax by Mara Quill.
Seven mismatched brass fingers on its right hand, each engraved with a different patrol route.
A secured chest hatch that vibrates whenever forbidden whisper-frequencies are nearby.
Its left leg produces a soft wooden creak that sounds almost like a sigh.
Voice
“Dry brass resonance with soft static, intermittent gear-clicks, and a faint second voice beneath the primary transmission”
Clothing
A weather-stained blue patrol sash is tied around its torso, reinforced with copper thread and marked with the faded white sigil of Rootwatch Hall. It also wears a small leather tool belt that hangs awkwardly from one hip.
Body Language
Unit 7-B communicates through abrupt turns, precise pointing, and small adjustments of its lens. Its shoulders lock when it detects danger. Its wooden fingers tap against its brass chest in sequences of three when anxious. During rare moments of trust, it lowers its head so the emerald lens shines directly into a person's hands rather than their face.
