Durn Iron-Ledger
Rogue 3, Evidence Custodian archetype
Durn Iron-Ledger
Species
Dwarf
Appearance
Durn is a stout, compact dwarf whose movements are so carefully measured that he seems to glide rather than walk. His iron-grey hair is trimmed close to the skull, while his dense beard is braided into three square cords threaded with tiny bone tally-markers. His skin bears the dry, faintly powdered look of someone who spends years among parchment, stone dust, and lamp soot. Brass-rimmed spectacles sit low on his broad, scarred nose, magnifying his pale eyes until they appear almost silver. He leaves behind an impression of severe order, yet one unexpected detail unsettles it: a single bright red thread is woven through his beard, replaced whenever it frays, though Durn refuses to explain why.
“A low, deliberate whisper with careful pauses. Durn rarely uses contractions, avoids dramatic language, and lowers his voice further when discussing anything dangerous.”

Distinguishing Features
Three braided beard cords decorated with bone tally-markers, each representing a life he failed to save or could not identify.
A pale scar crossing the bridge of his nose from a broken archive door during the Bell-Shaft Nine rescue.
Brass spectacles with one lens faintly smoked from laboratory exposure.
A red thread woven through his beard, always replaced before it breaks.
Ink-black fingertips that never fully wash clean despite gloves and abrasive soap.
Voice
“A soft iron rasp, always controlled, as if each word has been measured, catalogued, and sealed before leaving his mouth.”
Clothing
A heavy stain-resistant leather archivist's apron covers a dark wool tunic reinforced at the elbows. He wears fingerless gloves treated with wax to protect fragile vellum from skin oils, soft-soled boots for silent movement, a belt of labeled evidence pouches, and a hooded charcoal cloak lined with copper wire to reduce static near experimental apparatus.
Body Language
Durn keeps his shoulders square and his hands folded behind his back when calm. When suspicious, one thumb rubs the edge of a bone tally-marker. He rarely makes broad gestures, but his head turns sharply toward tiny sounds. In combat, he crouches low, uses furniture and shelves as cover, and moves with abrupt little bursts that contrast with his normally gliding pace.
