At the table

Voice

Her voice is dry-edged and steady, shaped by the breath control of dance and the discipline of speaking only when guards cannot easily use her words against her. Basic carries a faint port-district accent. When startled, she takes one quick breath through her nose before answering; when furious, she gets quicker and more direct.

She speaks Basic with measured consonants and a lightly rasped edge, as if each word has passed through dry air and too many sleepless nights. Her work as a dancer gives her timing; years of listening for guards have made her pauses deliberate. When she is angry, her words become blunt and fast, not hushed. She avoids theatrical pleading and makes requests sound like practical questions.

Speech patterns

Uses short, concrete sentences when discussing immediate danger.
Describes people by their footsteps or the sound of their keys before using their names.
Makes dry, understated jokes when someone expects her to plead.
Asks questions about exits, schedules, and who has been moved rather than about herself.

How to play them

Offer choices rather than promises. Beskra responds best to a clear, practical plan, an honest account of its risks, and evidence that the speaker respects her boundaries. She may trade information about guards for a chance to protect another prisoner. Do not assume she wants rescue on someone else's terms.

Goal

Get the prisoners out before the auction house transfers them, then find out whether Dena is safe.

Motivation

To reclaim control over her own choices and prevent the people around her from being treated as inventory.

Appearance

Beskra is a young Twi'lek woman whose rubis-red skin takes on a satin sheen where the amber lantern catches her cheekbones, while cold blue shadow gathers beneath her eyes. Her two deep-red lekku, darker at the roots, drape over one shoulder; small brass rings climb one of them, each carefully kept despite the grime. She sits on the stone bench with a dancer's trained balance, knees apart for stability and shoulders folded as if conserving space. Her poise looks effortless until she shifts: then the ankle chains scrape, and her whole body checks the limit of their reach. Dust coats her bare soles; her painted nails are chipped, and one toe ring has been filed into a tiny, practical wedge. She has no external ears. The unexpected detail is a small, painstakingly mended patch on her torn costume, stitched in the bright blue pattern of a child's kite rather than hidden to match.

Clothing

A torn remnant of a once-pristine dancer's outfit: a cropped top and short wrap in worn sapphire fabric, beneath a translucent, frayed sarong. Ornate brass clasps and a carved collar survive from the original costume. Stacked bangles and armbands are mismatched, some repurposed as keepsakes. Heavy engraved shackles circle her ankles, their long chains tethered to the wall and coiled across the dusty floor. She is barefoot, with dirty soles, chipped painted nails, and toe rings.

Body language

She takes up less room than her dancer's conditioning allows, folding inward around the reach of her chains. Her eyes remain active even when her shoulders sag. When she trusts someone, she shifts her weight forward and plants both feet; when alarmed, she angles one shoulder toward the nearest exit.

Distinguishing features

Rubis-red skin with a warm satin sheen in lantern light.
Deep-red lekku draped over one shoulder, one threaded with small brass rings.
A bright blue kite-patterned repair patch on her torn costume.
An engraved ankle shackle and a long chain that scrapes the floor when she moves.
No external ears, consistent with Twi'lek anatomy.

Personality

13 traits and drives

Beskra can be quick-witted and attentive with other prisoners, yet guarded and calculating with anyone who holds keys. She resents pity but accepts practical help when it is offered without ownership or demands. In quiet moments she remembers the warmth of performing for a willing audience; under threat, she becomes spare and unsentimental. Her compassion is real, but she does not confuse it with trust.

Alignment
Pragmatic and protective; distrustful of authority, but not cruel

Quirks

Counts a guard's steps in groups of seven, then starts again if someone speaks.
Taps a toe ring against stone to test whether a wall or pipe carries sound.
Folds loose cloth into tiny bird shapes and leaves them where another prisoner might find one.
When offered food, turns it once in her palm before eating, checking for a hidden message or tampering.

Habits

Counts footsteps and metal clanks without visibly moving her lips.
Turns her lekku away from anyone who reaches toward them, then watches their hands.
Offers practical help to frightened prisoners before discussing her own escape.
When a guard enters, she adopts stillness that resembles exhaustion but tracks every key and hinge.

Her suspicion can make her miss a genuine offer of assistance.
She will risk herself to shield a frightened captive, even when escape is finally possible.

That Tavi has been made to name other prisoners.
That her careful observation will not matter when the auction house moves its captives.

A way to move without the wall tether.
Reliable news of Dena and the child she helped escape.
A plan that does not leave other captives behind.
People who ask before touching her or her lekku.

Combat

HP 18 · 6 m per round in open space; shackles and the wall tether restrict movement in the cell.

Beskra avoids a stand-up fight. She watches for a distracted guard, uses the chain's reach and the cell's furniture to obstruct pursuit, and aims to escape or create an opening for another captive. She attacks only when cornered or when someone vulnerable is in immediate danger.

Actions

Improvised Shiv. Improvised shiv: melee attack, to hit, damage. She uses this only when escape or protecting someone leaves no alternative.
Thrown Shard. Thrown pottery shard: ranged attack, to hit, damage at close range. The shard is a custom, improvised weapon, not a standard Star Wars weapon.
Turn and Kick. A sharp, rehearsed dancer's turn and a sudden kick can create an opening. Resolve as an unarmed attack using the GM's chosen Star Wars ruleset; damage is minimal, but a target may be distracted long enough for her to flee.

Reactions

Boundary Flinch. When someone grabs for her lekku or reaches into her personal space, Beskra recoils and uses the movement to put a bench, chain, or other obstacle between them. This is a defensive response, not a guaranteed counterattack.
Draw the Guard. If a nearby captive is threatened, Beskra may draw attention toward herself with a loud accusation or sudden movement, giving the captive a brief chance to act.

Services they sell

Can describe the auction house's guard rhythms and cell-block sounds.
Can teach a simple dancer's feint useful for distracting an inattentive guard.
Can pass discreet messages between prisoners if given a safe route.

A route through the service corridor, if the party helps protect another captive.
A carefully folded cloth bird that marks a safe place to leave a message.

Carved collar with worn brass clasps
Mismatched bangles and armbands
Brass rings on one lekku

Background

Beskra was raised in a port district where her aunt, Dena, taught her dance steps used to entertain passengers and earn meal money. A patron once praised her timing, then arranged for her to be sold through a chain of intermediaries. She learned that a graceful posture could keep a room watching her hands instead of the exits. Her formative break came during a performance aboard a transport: a frightened child hid behind the stage curtains, and Beskra deliberately missed a cue to draw guards away long enough for the child to escape. The escape failed for her, but the child got clear. Now imprisoned beneath a private auction house, she studies the guards' route by their boots and the pipes' nightly knocks. She is trying to reach a laundry worker who may carry messages to Dena, while an old troupe mate, Tavi, has been pressured into identifying escape-minded captives. Beskra does not know whether Tavi is cooperating willingly.

Role in the story

A prisoner with a clear inner life and useful knowledge, not a prop or a prize. Beskra can become an ally, a source of clues about the auction house, or the person who challenges the party to make an escape plan that includes everyone.
