Barrier Saint

Evdos

0·Male·Medium
Lawful Good, strained toward Lawful Neutral by guilt and exhaustion

Species

Outsider

Appearance

Evdos looks like a broad-shouldered laborer who has been carved from weathered river stone and then covered in living skin. His movements are slow, economical, and careful, as though every gesture might accidentally become a command from a god. Fine pale cracks run from his knuckles to his elbows, glowing faintly whenever he uses divine power. His beard is square and badly trimmed, with several lengths tied off using bits of copper wire. His hands are enormous and permanently dusted with white grit. The unexpected detail is his delicate face, with soft cheeks and a small, almost embarrassed smile that makes him look more like a village mason than a deity.

Height6 feet 4 inches
BuildHeavy and powerful, with the compact strength of a lifelong stoneworker
EyesDull green with thin white rings around the pupils
HairIron gray, with a narrow copper-brown streak above the right ear
SkinWarm gray-brown, with a faint mineral sheen along the forearms and cheekbones

Low, measured, and plainspoken. Evdos sounds like a tired foreman explaining dangerous work to people he wants to keep alive.”

Distinguishing Features

Pale geometric cracks glowing beneath the skin of both forearms

A broken bronze key worn against his chest

White stone dust permanently embedded beneath his fingernails

One eyebrow split by an old vertical scar

A faint rectangular shimmer appears around him whenever he lies

His shadow sometimes shows twelve separate walls instead of one body

Voice

A deep, weathered baritone with a soft regional lilt. His voice carries the dry scrape of stone against stone, but becomes almost unbearably gentle when he speaks to the grieving.

Clothing

A faded brown work coat reinforced with strips of blue cloth, a sleeveless wool tunic, patched trousers, thick leather boots, and a tool belt carrying chisels instead of weapons. Around his neck hangs a broken bronze key from the eastern barrier.

Body Language

He keeps his hands folded over his stomach when listening, like a mason waiting for mortar to set. When distressed, he presses his thumb against the cracks in his opposite palm. When angered, he becomes almost perfectly still, and the air around him develops faint rectangular ripples.
