Species

High Elf

Appearance

Girta is a long-limbed high elf with the compact, work-hardened posture of someone who has carried an instrument farther than most people have traveled. Her movements are quiet until she plays, when her shoulders roll and her whole body seems to lean into the rhythm. Her fingers are broad at the tips and permanently darkened by resin and old copper dust. She wears a calm, almost severe expression, but her laugh arrives suddenly and brightly, startling people who have mistaken her for solemn. The unexpected contradiction is that her hands look powerful enough to split firewood, yet she handles her battered bass with the tenderness of someone cradling an infant.

Height5 feet 7 inches
BuildLean and sinewy, with long arms, narrow hips, and the dense shoulders of a musician who has spent decades carrying a heavy instrument.
EyesDeep hazel-green with fine gold flecks that seem to brighten when she hears music.
HairBlack-brown, worn in two thick braids threaded with faded copper wire and small wooden beads.
SkinWarm olive with a faint bronze undertone, weathered slightly by years of open-road travel.

Low, breathy, and carefully paced, with soft sibilants and a subtle mountain cadence. Her voice becomes almost inaudible when she is most frightened, then abruptly deepens into a resonant command when someone she loves is threatened.”

Distinguishing Features

Her speaking voice is low and breathy for an elf, with a faint whistle on s sounds that becomes pronounced when she is frightened.

Her bass is made from dark red wood veined with pale mineral lines, and its lowest string is wound with silver wire.

She keeps one hand slightly cupped even when empty, as if protecting an invisible flame.

Her coat smells faintly of pine resin, rain, and lamp oil.

When she smiles sincerely, she presses her lips together first, as though trying to keep the expression private.

Voice

A warm contralto with a breathy edge, as if every sentence begins beneath a held note. Her s sounds are soft in conversation but sharpen into a faint whistle when she is angry. When startled, she inhales audibly before speaking, and the first word afterward comes out deeper than expected.

Clothing

A moss-green wool coat hangs slightly too large from her shoulders and has been repaired with neat strips of red and gold cloth collected from towns where she has performed. Beneath it she wears a high-collared cream shirt, fitted charcoal trousers, and soft traveling boots. One silver clasp at her throat is polished obsessively, while nearly every other piece of metal on her clothing is scratched, dulled, or mismatched.

Body Language

At ease, Girta stands with one hip angled toward her bass and keeps two fingers resting lightly on its neck. When interested, she tilts her head and narrows her eyes as if listening for a hidden harmony. When angry, she becomes unnaturally still. When rattled, her breath catches in short, audible pulses and her thumb begins plucking an absent string against her palm.
