Appearance
Oren looks like a man repeatedly repaired rather than preserved. His face is broad and wind-burned, with a flattened nose, a pale scar running from his left eyebrow to the corner of his mouth, and a beard trimmed short enough to keep river weeds from catching in it. His hands are thick, cracked, and permanently dark beneath the nails from tar, wet rope, and bow resin. He moves with a rolling, careful gait on land, as if the ground might shift beneath him, but becomes startlingly graceful aboard a boat. His clothing smells faintly of smoke and brine. The unexpected thing about him is his immaculate fingernails on one hand, which he keeps clean for writing tiny observations in his field journal.
“Low, measured, and slightly hoarse, with the clipped rhythm of someone used to being heard over rain, oars, and rushing water. He pauses before important names and makes ordinary statements sound like careful judgments.”

Distinguishing Features
A scar divides the left eyebrow and upper lip without quite touching either.
The little finger of his right hand is permanently bent from an old rope injury.
He wears one polished brass earring taken from his brother's abandoned coat.
His left hand is rough and stained, while his right hand is carefully clean for writing.
His shadow seems to lag half a heartbeat behind him when he stands near deep water, a minor supernatural effect he refuses to discuss.
Voice
“A low baritone roughened by cold mornings and years of shouting across water. His laugh is brief, surprised, and usually followed by an apology to anyone nearby.”
Clothing
A patched brown river coat reinforced with strips of boiled leather, gray wool trousers tucked into knee-high boots, a faded red scarf, fingerless gloves, and a belt hung with cord, hooks, chalk, flint, and small glass vials.
Body Language
Oren keeps his shoulders loose and his hands visible, but his weight is always balanced over the balls of his feet. When listening, he tilts his head toward the speaker as though judging a current. When frightened, he becomes perfectly still. He touches the scar beside his mouth whenever Petros is mentioned.
