At the table
Voice
Clear and forward, with a dry breath before difficult answers and northern Italian vowels under her English. Her field instructions are clipped and concrete; when explaining a danger to someone frightened, she slows down and names each step.
Her voice is shaped by years of giving instructions in noisy, dangerous places: clear, forward, and economical, with northern Italian vowels beneath fluent English. She takes a dry intake of breath before difficult answers, as though testing the air for smoke. In the field, her words are clipped and concrete; with frightened people, she slows down and explains exactly what she is doing.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Be frank about immediate dangers and specific about what she can offer. She respects courage, honesty, and people who accept consequences. Do not mistake her guarded manner for indifference: demonstrate that you can protect someone without controlling them, and she may begin to trust you.
Goal
Keep the freehold and its vulnerable dependents safe without allowing its politics to make her a weapon against innocents.
Motivation
Love expressed as vigilance: she wants the people in her care to survive and to become capable of surviving without her.
Appearance
In her fae mien, Louise has the arresting, otherworldly beauty of the sidhe, sharpened rather than softened by a warrior's life. Her blue-grey eyes catch light like rain on slate, and pointed ears emerge through her dark, tightly braided hair. Her skin is olive-toned, with a fine, dry texture like sun-warmed stone. She stands straight but never rigid, shifting her weight with the economical balance of someone always measuring a room for exits and threats. Her mail and travel leathers are scuffed, oiled, and carefully maintained. Unexpectedly, she carries a tiny folding paper theater in her breast pocket and repairs its painted scenery when she is alone.
Clothing
Dark travel leathers under a fitted, weather-beaten coat, with discreet mail at the torso and forearms. Her boots are built for wet stone, and a plain wool scarf hides the line of her armor when she needs to pass unnoticed.
Body language
She stands as if the ground might shift beneath her, feet planted and shoulders loose. In conversation, she angles herself between danger and whoever seems least prepared for it. Before answering a difficult question, she presses her thumb against the guard of her sword or the folded theater in her pocket.

Personality
14 traits and drivesLouise is brutal when a threat leaves no room for hesitation, yet tender in the slow, unshowy work of keeping someone alive. She values independence but keeps taking responsibility for people who have not asked her to. In a calm room she can be wry and unexpectedly patient; when a vulnerable person is endangered, patience gives way to decisive, sometimes excessive force. She wants trust but has built her life around making sure nobody can surprise her.
- Alignment
- Protective of people under her charge, merciless toward those who prey on them; she judges conduct before allegiance.

HP 0 · Use the chronicle's normal movement rules; no separate speed statistic is assigned.Louise tries to keep allies behind her and opponents in front of her. She uses footwork, measured cuts, and binds to control a fight rather than chasing spectacle. If someone threatens a bystander, she abandons caution and closes hard. She prefers to disable or drive off an opponent when doing so will genuinely end the danger, but does not offer mercy as a substitute for accountability.

Background
Louise Sarne de Scathach was born in northern Italy and grew up between the demands of ordinary family life and a bloodline whose fae inheritance pressed insistently at the edges of the world. She has a younger brother in her human life, whom she loves fiercely and protects by keeping him at a distance from the supernatural. Her Chrysalis did not make her gentle; it gave names and faces to forces she had already learned to fear. The experience that shaped her most came later, when a frightened young changeling's uncontrolled choices helped send a man falling to his death. Louise tracked the raven-born pooka from the Tower of London and brought him to a freehold lodge, not to punish him but to make him face what he had done and learn how not to do it again. She now takes payment from the freehold to watch for Unseelie threats and rival supernatural factions, a job she treats as a promise rather than a contract. She is still in contact with her brother, though her excuses for missed visits are wearing thin. Her current trouble is that the freehold expects her to be both its sword and its conscience, while the pooka's presence keeps reopening the question of whether protection without trust is only another kind of cage.
Role in the story
A formidable hired protector whose hard choices force the characters to distinguish safety from control. She can be a demanding ally, a moral counterweight, or the person who insists the party take responsibility for a reckless choice.
“She has a younger brother in her human life, whom she loves fiercely and protects by keeping him at a distance from the supernatural.”
- Faction
- House Scathach; hired by a local freehold as a warden. Her autumnal manner is a personal motif, not an assertion of a canonical faction.
