At the table
Voice
A dry rasp with a little breath in it, clear enough to carry across a trail or a noisy room. Army habit gives his instructions crisp edges; Minnesota vowels and Swedish-American family rhythms soften them. His anger sounds more abrupt and plainspoken, not quieter or more courteous.
His voice has a dry, slightly breath-worn rasp, as if shaped by cold-weather hikes and giving instructions outdoors. He speaks in clear, workmanlike phrases, with a rounded Minnesota cadence softened by Swedish-American family speech. He does not imitate an old Norse voice when using Ragnar's name; only the name carries that older echo.

How to play them
Meet him through practical conversation and he is helpful, steady, and cautiously funny. Treat him as a subordinate or demand unquestioning loyalty and his warmth hardens into formal compliance. Show concern without pressing him to explain the horns; he may eventually volunteer the truth. He responds especially well to people who are honest about what they want.
Goal
See Italy with his friends, return to Amelia with enough honesty to ask her to marry him, and learn whether Ragnar's memories belong to him without surrendering Kyle's life.
Motivation
Protect the people he has promised to look after while finding a way to make his fae identity his own rather than another duty assigned from above.
Appearance
Finn Svenson, known to the Army as Kyle, is a broad-shouldered young man with a Minnesota winter's habit of keeping his chin tucked into his scarf. His fine blue wool coat has small travel patches sewn inside, hidden unless the coat swings open: places he has hiked and seen, stitched in careful, practical thread. Beneath it he wears a white T-shirt printed with the Alps, black pants, and running shoes. His hands are large and blunt-fingered, with calluses across the palms and flattened nail edges from field work; he uses them gently around cups and maps, but they look made to hold a line. In his troll mien, Ragnar Obstorth is immense and slate-skinned, with ridged, weathered texture, a heavy brow, and two horns that sweep up like the roots of a storm-felled tree. He moves with deliberate, ground-taking steps that become surprisingly nimble when protecting someone. In any reflective surface, his gaze goes first to the horns, then drops away. The unexpected detail: he keeps a tiny, carefully mended patch inside his coat showing a trail marker, not a military insignia.
Clothing
White T-shirt with a picture of the Alps, black pants, running shoes, a fine blue wool coat, and a scarf. He keeps his trail patches on the inside of the coat.
Body language
He stands squarely but rarely crowds people on purpose. His eyes track doors, hands, and who is being left out of a conversation. When a reflection catches his fae mien, his gaze catches on the horns before he turns his head or steps aside. He rubs the inside seam of his coat when deciding whether to tell the truth.

Distinguishing features
Personality
14 traits and drivesHe is dependable but not naturally selfless: he likes being the person others rely on, then bristles when they stop asking whether he can manage it. He is gentle with anxious people and blunt with bullies. In a calm mood he makes dry jokes and listens well; under command pressure he becomes disciplined almost to the point of self-erasure. When friends provoke someone, his first instinct is to restrain them, but if a loved one is actually threatened he can become frighteningly direct.
- Alignment
- Unseelie, recently turned from Seelie by coercion and exhaustion rather than conviction.

Combat
HP 0Protect allies and control space rather than chase a fight. He uses his size to block access, grapples when that can end a threat without lasting harm, and follows clear orders unless they endanger someone under his care. His troll resilience does not make him invulnerable.

Background
Kyle Svenson grew up Swedish-American in Minnesota, where long walks, cold weather, and practical competence felt like ordinary virtues. He joined the US Army and became a sergeant, E-5, the senior enlisted man in his small circle. He learned to carry responsibility without making a show of it, and on leave he has been trying to see Italy with his friends Johnathan Kauffman, who goes by Burke VonBraken, and Willie Woods, who goes by Wyke Gorn. The three can be petty and vindictive, a habit Finn usually contains by making them talk through consequences before acting. His fae memories began as fragments: a road under unfamiliar stars, old names, and a life that felt both his and not his. He had been Seelie. His distant superior, a Native Hawaiian first lieutenant and Unseelie Night-Marcher changeling, became curious about those memories and wore him down until a forced Chrysalis broke through. Finn emerged as Ragnar Obstorth, frightened by the difference between the life he remembers and the one he has built. Now he carries messages upward for the lieutenant, who remains distant and difficult to read. Finn's girlfriend Amelia is the person he most wants to return to, and he is planning to ask her to marry him. His current problem is that he cannot tell whether his new Unseelie allegiance is a choice, a survival tactic, or a debt someone else intends to collect.
Role in the story
The party's practical leader and reluctant bridge between a small group of petty friends and their distant Unseelie superior. He can be a reliable ally, a source of military discipline, and evidence that a forced Chrysalis leaves personal and political consequences.
“He joined the US Army and became a sergeant, E-5, the senior enlisted man in his small circle.”
- Faction
- Unseelie Court by recent coercion; a Night-Marcher-associated circle through his superior. He is also an active US Army sergeant, E-5.
