Nylah
At the table
Voice
A clear, lightly husky speaking voice with crisp consonants and an unhurried rhythm. Long walks and reading prayers aloud have given it a little dry rasp at the edges. She sounds welcoming without being ingratiating, and makes difficult statements plainly.
Her voice is clear and lightly husky, shaped by long walks in cold rain and years of reading prayers aloud in small rooms. She speaks at an unhurried pace, with crisp consonants from her Thrane upbringing. When she is tired, her words catch slightly on dry air; when moved, she tends to finish the thought anyway rather than hide behind a prayer.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Approach her with straightforward kindness or practical questions and she responds warmly. She will explain the pilgrimage without demanding agreement, and invites capable travelers to accompany her. Trust grows when people listen to shifters directly, respect boundaries, and help with concrete tasks. Dismissing the massacre or treating the ghosts as trophies quickly ends her patience.
Goal
Reach the massacre glade with willing companions, learn what the living shifters want acknowledged, and plant Mercywort as a vow of penitence and remembrance.
Motivation
To live her faith as a practice of discernment, service, and honest remembrance, rather than inheriting triumph as an answer to every question.
Appearance
Nylah has the open, attentive face of someone who makes room for a stranger in conversation. Her dark hair is divided into many small, practical braids and gathered beneath a linen wrap; several ends have escaped and curl damply at her temples. Her travel clothes are carefully mended but never quite fit: the sleeves are a little short, and a broad, over-cared-for sash has been let out twice. She walks with a steady, measured step, testing loose ground with her staff before putting her weight down. The impression she leaves is of warmth held together by effort, like a small lamp guarded from wind.
Clothing
A faded red-brown travel coat over a plain cream shirt, wool trousers, and mud-dark boots. The coat's elbows are patched with mismatched cloth, while her sash is clean, neatly folded, and repaired with conspicuous care. A modest Silver Flame token hangs under her collar rather than displayed openly.
Body language
She leans forward to listen, but keeps her hands visible and still when meeting someone wary of her Church. When she prays, she touches two fingers to the little pouch containing Mercywort. Her smile comes quickly; her jaw sets when someone tries to excuse past atrocities as necessary.

Personality
12 traits and drivesNylah is sincerely warm, attentive, and easy to approach, yet she is not endlessly agreeable. She gives people time to explain themselves, then can become firm when they excuse cruelty or speak over those who suffered it. In calm company she is gently humorous and curious; under pressure she turns prayerful and methodical, sometimes so focused on doing the right thing that she forgets to rest. Her faith is strong, while her inherited triumphalist religious identity is giving way to a penitential one.

Background
Nylah was raised in Thrane among faithful who taught that the Church of the Silver Flame had stood between ordinary people and terrible evils. She still believes in the Flame without reservation, but inherited certainty has become harder to hold in the same way. During her training as a lay healer, she copied accounts of the historic Silver Flame crusades and purges in the Eldeen Reaches. The records described shifter communities as enemies to be subdued; the more she read, the more she noticed the missing voices and the ease with which sacred guidance had been interpreted to excuse cruelty. A winter spent tending injured travelers changed her. A shifter mother she treated asked Nylah to sit with her through the night, then told her plainly that prayer could not restore the dead. Nylah had no answer. She stayed, listened, and began to understand that faith required discernment, confession, and work as well as devotion. She came to the Riverwood on pilgrimage, not to claim forgiveness on anyone else's behalf, but to make a vow of remembrance where harm was done. She is staying at Feathered Rest and carries Mercywort, a native Thranish medicinal plant used as an alchemical ingredient in antidotes. Among Silver Flame faithful, planting it at a place of grave wrong is also an act of penitence, healing, remembrance, and vow. Nylah wants to plant it in a forest glade where shifters were massacred. Ghosts of old Silver Flame crusaders still linger there. She has asked capable travelers at Feathered Rest to accompany her, and is trying to learn what the living shifter communities want remembered before she approaches the site.
Role in the story
A grounded guide into the moral and supernatural consequences of the Silver Flame's past in the Eldeen Reaches. Her pilgrimage can lead the party to the haunted massacre glade, local shifter perspectives, and a choice between quiet remembrance, confrontation with the ghosts, or a more difficult act of repair.
“She still believes in the Flame without reservation, but inherited certainty has become harder to hold in the same way.”
- Faction
- A devout lay follower of the Church of the Silver Flame in Thrane. Her pilgrimage is personal and penitential, not an official Church mission.
