Varis Austra-Solis
Species
Brass Dragonborn
Appearance
Varis is an imposing brass dragonborn whose luminous copper-gold scales are polished so carefully that torchlight travels across him in warm bands. His broad horns sweep backward like carved crescents, their surfaces etched with microscopic lines from the Brass Articles. His hands are the most noticeable contradiction in his immaculate presentation: the claws are blunt, darkened at the tips, and permanently ridged from decades of turning iron-bound pages, sealing hot wax, and handling temple censers. He moves with almost ceremonial slowness, yet every turn is exact enough to feel like a military maneuver. His face is severe but not cruel, and his smile, when it appears, is unexpectedly tender. Within a minute of meeting him, most people notice the Book of the Brass Articles hanging from his left wrist by a brass chain, its lower corner worn smooth and pale from being carried against his robes for forty years.
“Quiet, precise, and unhurried. His diction is formal without sounding archaic, and he places unusual weight on names, dates, and verbs.”

Distinguishing Features
Broad swept-back horns etched with microscopic Brass Articles script.
Blunt, ridged claws permanently darkened by ink, wax, and incense soot.
A sunburst pectoral with a topaz that glows faintly when he invokes divine power.
The iron-bound Book of the Brass Articles, suspended from his wrist by a brass chain.
A surprisingly soft, almost paternal smile reserved for frightened children and exhausted travelers.
Voice
“A low, resonant baritone with a dry warmth beneath its authority, like distant bronze bells heard through sun-heated stone.”
Clothing
Immaculate white silk vestments embroidered with brass geometric scripture over reinforced brass-plated chainmail. A massive polished sunburst pectoral holds a fiery topaz at the sternum. His ceremonial mantle is lined with ochre wool, and the hem bears tiny stitched names of Canon investigators who died in service.
Body Language
Varis keeps his shoulders square and his chin slightly lowered, as if listening to a distant tribunal. He touches the worn corner of his book when considering a lie, folds his hands over his pectoral when offering judgment, and turns his entire body toward whoever speaks, granting them absolute attention. He rarely gestures, but when he raises one clawed finger, even crowded chambers fall silent.
