Nessa Brindle
Commoner
Nessa Brindle
Species
Lightfoot Halfling
Appearance
Nessa is a small, broad-shouldered halfling woman with the compact strength of someone who has hauled crates for most of her life. Her hands are heavily lined and permanently scented with cinnamon, lamp oil, and wool. She walks with a measured, forward-leaning shuffle, but when money, danger, or an interesting rumor appears, she becomes startlingly quick. Her clothes hang slightly loose around her narrow frame, except for a carefully fitted green wool vest that has been brushed smooth and rebuttoned with mismatched brass. She gives the contradictory impression of being both fragile and impossible to move.
“Her voice is low, dry, and surprisingly resonant for a halfling. She speaks quickly when discussing prices, slowly when discussing grief, and clips the final word from a sentence when she thinks someone is lying.”

Distinguishing Features
Her immaculate green vest has brass buttons polished bright enough to catch candlelight.
She carries a tiny brass balance scale even when she has no goods to sell.
Her left shoe squeaks faintly with every third step.
She smells faintly of cinnamon, wool, and lamp oil.
Her smile is lopsided because she habitually holds a pencil between her teeth while thinking.
Voice
“A husky contralto with a market seller's carrying power, softened by age and sharpened by years of arguing over dishonest weights.”
Clothing
A faded plum blouse, a loose brown skirt reinforced with visible patches, thick gray stockings, and scuffed traveling shoes. Her green wool vest is the only perfectly maintained garment she owns, with polished brass buttons and a hidden inner pocket. She wears a measuring cord around her neck and keeps a yellow tape tied around her left wrist.
Body Language
Nessa occupies little physical space until someone handles her goods carelessly. Then she plants both feet, raises her chin, and somehow makes a crowded room feel like her shop. She keeps one hand near her vest pocket and uses her other hand to point with a folded receipt.
