Appearance
Ayoemeké has the compact, weather-shaped look of someone raised around steep docks and hard rain. His skin is deep copper-brown with a faint sheen like oiled wood, and his thick black hair is shaved close at the temples while the top is gathered into a short, carefully wrapped knot. He moves with a guarded sideways rhythm, always keeping one shoulder angled toward the nearest doorway. His hands are broad and unusually gentle, with clean nails and fingertips stained blue from indigo cordwork. The unexpected thing about him is his immaculate grooming: even after a night watch, his collar is straight, his knot is secure, and a tiny carved wooden comb rests behind one ear. He gives the impression of a stern young sentry until he smiles at an animal, at which point his entire face becomes boyishly open.
“Measured and low, with a brief breath drawn through the nose before important sentences. He speaks in short practical phrases during danger and unexpectedly poetic descriptions when discussing water, food, or home.”

Distinguishing Features
A constant, almost inaudible intake of breath before he speaks, as though testing whether the room is safe.
A small wooden comb tucked behind one ear, carved with three waves and polished smooth from years of handling.
Blue indigo stains on his fingertips from repairing cord and netting.
A white doorway painted on his shield, with no door drawn inside it.
He smells faintly of cedar oil, river mud, and crushed mint.
Voice
“A low, warm baritone with a faint rasp from river mist and too many nights spent shouting warnings. He sounds calm when frightened and almost cheerful when furious.”
Clothing
A faded indigo undershirt, boiled leather jerkin, patched charcoal trousers, polished iron bracers, and a green cord tied around his left wrist. He wears a shield with a painted white doorway on its face.
Body Language
He stands with his shield hand slightly forward, as if bracing against an unseen current. When relaxed, he rocks subtly from heel to toe. When lying, he becomes perfectly still and begins smoothing the edge of his sleeve.
