Species

Elf

Appearance

Sala is a tall, weathered elf whose elegance has been worn down into something practical and compelling. Her hands are permanently stained at the cuticles with mineral blues, iron reds, and a green that never quite washes away. She moves with the cautious balance of someone crossing a wet studio floor, placing each foot as though the ground might change its mind. Her face is narrow and expressive, with deep smile lines and a habit of studying corners, thresholds, rooflines, and drainage channels before looking at the person speaking to her. The unexpected contradiction is that her famous hands are rough, cracked, and paint-caked, while her fingernails are kept immaculately trimmed and polished with clear lacquer. In a crowded room, she leaves the impression of a tired laborer who somehow commands the attention of a monarch.

Height6 feet 1 inch
BuildLong-limbed and wiry, with the compact strength of someone who has hauled ladders, pigment buckets, wet canvas, and stone tiles for centuries.
EyesDeep hazel brown with gold flecks, though most people remember where her eyes went rather than their color.
HairIron-gray threaded with faded copper, worn in a severe braid wrapped twice around the back of her head. Loose strands curl in humid air.
SkinWarm umber with a muted bronze undertone, weathered across the knuckles and forearms from decades of outdoor work

Her voice is low, dry, and carefully paced, with a worn-in rhythm that makes every sentence sound like an instruction given during bad weather. Her accent carries faint Hungarian and Greek inflections in the vowels, especially when she is tired or angry.”

Distinguishing Features

Her gaze constantly measures architecture, weather, and escape routes instead of resting naturally on faces.

Mineral pigment has permanently darkened the skin around her fingernails in irregular rings.

A thin copper chain at her throat carries a broken blue tile, which she touches whenever someone mentions home.

She smells faintly of rain on stone, linseed oil, and bitter orange peel.

Her movements are careful and balanced, but her laugh is startlingly loud and unrefined.

Voice

A low contralto with a dry rasp, like a brush dragged across unfinished plaster. She becomes almost musical when describing weather, but her voice turns flat and precise when issuing orders.

Clothing

A faded ochre work coat reinforced at the elbows, a slate-gray linen shirt, loose trousers tucked into soft leather boots, and a broad canvas sash filled with brushes, chalks, folded maps, and glass pigment tubes. A narrow copper chain at her throat holds a broken piece of blue tile from her childhood home.

Body Language

Sala keeps one shoulder angled toward the nearest exit and rests her thumb against the first knuckle of her paint-stained index finger when calculating risk. She rarely points at people, preferring to point at surfaces. When angry, she smooths invisible wrinkles from her sleeves. When genuinely moved, she becomes completely still.
