Species
Human
Appearance
A lean, tan-skinned man with the compact, slightly stooped posture of someone who has spent years working over tables too low for him. His messy black hair is cut unevenly with a reagent knife, and a pale stripe runs through it where a chemical fire once flashed across his scalp. His hands are narrow, scarred, and permanently discolored at the fingertips, as if he has dipped them in old ink. He moves with careful economy around glassware, never brushing a bottle or table edge, yet becomes startlingly quick when threatened. His face is tired and plain at first glance, but one eye is a warm brown while the other reflects a faint copper-red glow whenever his patron is watching. The unexpected contradiction is his smile: broad, crooked, and almost boyish, completely at odds with the hunted, sleepless impression left by the rest of him.
“Marek speaks in a low, dry voice with a practical city accent touched by clipped Old World vowels. He explains strange magic in the language of kitchens, mills, and laborers.”

Distinguishing Features
One brown eye and one copper-red eye that glows faintly when his patron observes through reflections.
A chemical burn has bleached a jagged streak through the left side of his black hair.
The nails of his right hand are permanently amber-colored.
A thin circular scar surrounds his left wrist, marking the place where the patron's contract first appeared.
He smells faintly of bitter orange peel, hot metal, and rain on stone.
Voice
“A restrained baritone with a rough edge, usually quiet enough to make listeners lean closer. When his patron speaks through him, a second voice arrives half a heartbeat late, dry and papery, as if recited from inside a sealed jar.”
Clothing
A hooded charcoal robe worn beneath a brown leather work apron, both patched with mismatched strips of treated hide. The apron is crowded with corked tubes, chalk, folded gloves, and tiny brass clamps. His sleeves are rolled to the elbow, exposing burn scars and faded blue alchemical tattoos. His boots are sturdy, cracked, and dusted with white neutralizing powder.
Body Language
Soren leans toward people when they speak, but keeps one shoulder angled toward the nearest exit. His fingers tap silent measurements against his apron, and he frequently checks reflective surfaces without appearing to look at them. When lying, he becomes very still. When telling the truth, he fidgets constantly.
