Appearance
Odrin is a narrow, weather-bent woman with the compact strength of someone accustomed to hauling chains and leaning into locked mechanisms. Her face is marked by pale salt freckles and a thin scar that runs from the corner of her mouth to her jaw, as if someone once tried to silence her with a blade. She moves with a measured, rocking gait that resembles a boat correcting itself in rough water. Her hands are broad, cracked, and permanently dark beneath the fingernails, yet she wears one immaculate white glove on her left hand. The glove is embroidered with tiny blue waves and is never removed in public. She leaves behind the impression of damp stone, candle smoke, and someone listening for a sound beneath another sound. Unexpectedly, her stern, exhausted face becomes almost girlish when she sees stray animals or badly made toys.
“Low, deliberate, and practical, with a faint rasp from years of calling warnings across water. She rarely raises her voice.”

Distinguishing Features
A pale scar from the corner of her mouth to her jaw
A pristine white glove worn only on her left hand
A water-stained prayer cord with one missing bead
A ring of nine mismatched floodgate keys that clatter in an irregular rhythm
A faint smell of river mud and candle smoke that clings to her clothing
Voice
“A dry contralto, steady as a lock chain under tension, softened only when she speaks to children, animals, or the dead.”
Clothing
A faded blue canal-priest's coat over a brown wool dress, knee-high waterproof boots, a patched oilskin mantle, and a white glove on her left hand. Her belt carries a ring of floodgate keys, a brass whistle, waxed thread, and a tiny folding knife. The coat hem is always damp, even in dry weather.
Body Language
Odrin keeps her shoulders square and her feet angled toward the nearest escape route. She raises both hands when threatened, but keeps her left gloved hand close to the prayer cord. When lying, she becomes unnaturally still. When telling the truth, her right thumb rubs the scar beside her mouth.
