Voice

His voice is a young man's, clear but still unfamiliar to him, with a forward, consonant-focused Polish cadence. Long hours explaining software failures have left him good at separating clauses and stating caveats. When tired, he rubs his throat as if checking the sound came from him; when angry, his articulation sharpens and his volume rises with his breath.

Tomasz speaks Polish as his first language and Common with a noticeable Polish accent. He favors precise nouns, conditional phrasing, and practical questions. He can discuss danger as though checking a system for failure, then lose his train of thought at the smell of familiar bread.

Speech patterns

Describes danger in practical, almost game-like terms: 'Two exits, one bad angle, and something large enough to make tracks.'
Uses dry understatement when nervous, especially about his own mistakes.
Sometimes starts a sentence in Polish and translates only after noticing the listener's confusion.
A mundane reminder of home can interrupt his brisk analysis; he may fall silent over the smell of bread or the sound of a kettle.

How to play them

Treat Tomasz as a capable, observant person rather than as a puzzle about his body. He will share useful threat assessments and plant knowledge readily if the party respects local people and gives him time to adjust to unfamiliar physical tasks. Ask about his old life gently; ordinary memories can move him more than dramatic danger. He appreciates practical help offered without making him feel incompetent.

Goal

Find a safe route for the Split-Stone Circle and learn whether the buried hoard in his dreams is connected to his Smok Wawelski bloodline.

Motivation

To make his analytical skills useful in this new life without letting other people reduce him to a translator, a body, or a possible monster.

Appearance

A handsome, hale young man with a face still unfamiliar to him: broad cheekbones, a straight nose, and a mouth that seems poised between a dry joke and a question. His posture is careful rather than timid; he keeps his weight on the balls of his feet as if testing how much ground his longer legs occupy. In a room, his eyes visit doors, hands, windows, and any source of food before settling on a speaker. His movements are newly powerful and occasionally overcommitted: he reaches too far, catches a cup too firmly, then pretends this was deliberate. A surprising detail for a wary interpreter and forager is that he keeps tiny, neatly labeled sketches of plants in the margins of his field notes, complete with absurdly precise measurements.

Clothing

A weatherproof wool tunic under a patched dark-green cloak, rough trousers, and boots that are slightly too stiff for long marches. He has tied a strip of cloth around one wrist to remind himself not to grip tools so hard. His belt carries a small knife, folded notes, and a stoppered pouch for plant samples.

Body language

He stands with his feet set as if the floor might shift, and his hands hover near objects rather than trusting his new grip. When listening, he watches the speaker's hands and then the nearest exit. When angry, his jaw works and his shoulders rise; he does not become quieter, but his sentences get more exact.

Distinguishing features

His attention makes a deliberate circuit of a room, checking hands and exits before faces.
After exertion, a faint sulfurous warmth clings to his breath.
He carries precise plant sketches in the margins of practical field notes.

Personality

13 traits and drives

Thoughtful and dryly funny, Tomasz can turn a frightening situation into a list of risks and options, but the method is partly armor. He is patient with evidence and impatient with people who refuse to look at it. In a crisis he becomes brisk and observant; among friends he is more teasing and unexpectedly tender. Privately, he is furious at how little control he has over the bodily changes he accepts as real, and an ordinary reminder of home can break through his practiced composure.

Quirks

Labels plant sketches with measurements so precise that he records the angle of a leaf as well as its shape.
Counts exits, windows, and visible hands whenever he enters a room, then tries to pretend he was simply looking around.
Taps a tool twice against his boot before using it, a habit borrowed from checking equipment at his old job.
Keeps a private list of foods that taste like home and adds to it whenever something surprises him.
When he misjudges his new strength, he apologizes to the object before anyone else.

Habits

Makes a small plan before entering a dangerous place, then revises it as soon as new evidence appears.
Checks the edges of a camp for edible or medicinal plants while others argue.
When embarrassed by a bodily mistake, makes a dry joke and changes the subject to practical matters.
After strenuous work, takes a moment to breathe through his nose and check whether the sulfurous warmth has returned.

Traits · 3

Patient with evidence, impatient with avoidable confusion.
Uses dry humor to make fear manageable, not to dismiss other people's pain.
Accepts being a man while resenting how quickly strangers presume to know what that means for him.

Flaws · 3

He can mistake a human crisis for a problem that will yield to enough analysis.
Privately furious at the loss of control over his body, he sometimes turns that anger into brittle sarcasm.
His unfamiliar strength makes him overestimate what his body can safely do.

Fears · 3

That the crossing has made his old life unreachable, not merely distant.
That anger or appetite will make him act carelessly and endanger the people who rely on him.
That the dreams of a hoard beneath stone are a summons rather than a metaphor.

Wants and needs · 4

A safe, respectful place to learn the habits of his changed body without being treated as a spectacle.
Reliable access to food and rest while his appetite and stamina settle.
A way to preserve memories of home that is more durable than scraps of paper.
The Circle's trust when he shares what he knows about the dreams.

Tomasz is a level-0, non-classed common traveler using custom, simplified 5e-style statistics. He avoids fair fights, uses cover, points out hazards, and keeps a clear escape route. If forced into melee, he uses his spear to hold an enemy at a distance while an ally withdraws. His dragon heritage currently provides only a narrative omen, not a damaging power.

Custom heritage. Smok Wawelski, a dormant Polish dragon bloodline. Tomasz is not yet capable of flight, breath weapons, or other mature dragon powers.
Sulfur-Warm Breath. After strenuous exertion or a moment of intense anger, his breath smells faintly of hot stone and sulfur. This is a narrative sign, not a combat attack.
Threat Analysis. Tomasz breaks danger into likely outcomes, resources, and escape routes, reflecting his former work as a data analyst.
Useful Plants. He can identify common edible and medicinal plants in unfamiliar terrain when given time to examine them.

Actions

Hunting Spear. Melee Weapon Attack: to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 () piercing damage. Tomasz uses a plain hunting spear.
Improvised Missile. Ranged Weapon Attack: to hit, range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 3 () piercing damage. He throws a small knife or a gathered stone; use the knife only if he has it in hand.

Reactions

Spear Check (custom). When an ally within 5 feet is threatened and Tomasz is holding his spear, he can impose a brief obstacle by thrusting the shaft across the attacker's path. The attacker must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or have its movement reduced by 5 feet until the end of its turn. This custom reaction deals no damage and does not negate the attack.

Background

Before the crossing, Tomasz worked as a quality analyst for a public-transport software contractor in Kraków. He spent long days reproducing failures, comparing logs, and writing reports that had to remain useful after everyone else had gone home. He was one of three people in the Split-Stone Circle who had a female body before the event. The crossing remade him into a hale young man, and he accepts that he is a man; what unsettles him is the sudden unfamiliarity of height, strength, voice, appetite, bodily care, anger, libido, and the assumptions strangers attach to masculinity. He remembers his former life with painful clarity, including the texture of a tram pole in winter and the exact sound of his mother's kettle. Now he interprets threats for the Circle and searches for useful plants in a country outsiders call wild and pagan. He resents that label, though he knows the locals have their own reasons for distrusting travelers. A formative moment came when he misjudged his new reach and knocked a lantern into a store of dried herbs. The fire nearly trapped the Circle's wounded member, Brzena. Tomasz got everyone out, but afterward insisted on making a written inventory of every movement he had misjudged. His current problem is twofold: the Circle needs a reliable route through contested country, and Tomasz's dreams keep returning to a hoard buried under stone, where something seems to recognize his blood.

Role in the story

A grounded guide, interpreter, and practical analyst whose new dragon heritage can develop into a larger mystery. Tomasz offers the party concrete help while carrying an unresolved longing for home and a dangerous dream that may eventually draw them beneath the stone.

Known connections

Brzena, a wounded member of the Split-Stone Circle, trusts Tomasz's plans but still teases him about the herb-store fire.
His mother, Zofia, remains in his memories as a steady source of home; he has no way to know whether he can ever reach her.
A local plant-gatherer named Csongor trades knowledge with him but disapproves of how readily Tomasz treats danger as a solvable puzzle.
