Dwarf
Appearance
Khorvash is a compact, broad-shouldered dwarf whose body has the dense, work-hardened look of a tool chest packed too tightly. His skin is dark copper beneath a permanent veil of pale cistern dust, and his knuckles are crosshatched with old cuts filled by black grit. His beard is clipped close around the mouth but left long beneath the jaw, where it has been braided with strips of blue ceramic tile. He moves with abrupt, economical purpose, never wasting a step, yet his hands are unexpectedly gentle when touching cracked masonry or frightened children. His face is severe enough to suggest anger until he smiles, at which point he looks almost embarrassed to possess a mouth.
“Low, dry, and clipped, with a rasp like grit dragged across fired clay. He rarely raises his voice.”

Distinguishing Features
Three blue ceramic tiles are braided into his beard, each bearing a different broken glyph.
His left thumbnail is stained permanently cobalt from touching the cistern inscriptions.
He wears a brass key around his neck that opens no known lock.
One of his front teeth is made from polished bone and clicks softly when he speaks.
His shadow appears to lag half a heartbeat behind him near the cistern.
Voice
“A gravelly baritone with a faint whistle on sibilants, as though every word has passed through dust. His rare jokes arrive without a change in expression.”
Clothing
A sleeveless leather work coat patched with braided reed, a sand-colored wrap skirt over close-fitting trousers, ceramic knee guards, cracked goggles worn around his neck, and a broad belt crowded with wedges, awls, wire, chalk, and sealant jars.
Body Language
He leans toward broken objects as if listening to them, taps his thumb against the first two fingers while thinking, and plants both feet wide whenever someone challenges his judgment. When lying, he becomes unusually still and stops touching nearby stone.
