Vez Morvath

Vez Morvath
Species
Human
Appearance
Vez Morvath is a compact, broad-shouldered woman with the dense, practical musculature of someone raised hauling ore through unstable tunnels. Her dark umber skin bears a fine dusting of pale mineral freckles across the nose and cheekbones, and the left side of her jaw has a faint glassy sheen from an old Star-Sand burn. Her hair is cropped close at the temples and gathered into a short black braid threaded with copper wire. She moves with deliberate economy, never wasting a step, yet her hands are unexpectedly gentle when she handles a broken tool or frightened child. In a crowded chamber, people notice her before they hear her, a grounded figure around whom arguments seem to arrange themselves.
“Her voice is low, dry, and steady, with a slight rasp from years of breathing furnace air. She pronounces names carefully and lets silence do the work of emphasis.”

Distinguishing Features
A translucent Star-Sand burn scars the left side of her jaw.
Her copper wrist torcs are engraved with the names of dead Compact delegates.
She wears a black iron ring containing a grain of ore from Shaft K-19.
Her left little finger is permanently crooked from the Ashen Gate Incident.
A pale line of mineral deposits crosses her right palm like a tiny map of the Star-Sand Veins.
Voice
“Low, dry, steady, and faintly rasped, with the measured cadence of a tunnel forewoman calling commands through machinery.”
Clothing
Reinforced brown travel leathers layered beneath a sleeveless soot-red mining coat. Copper torcs circle both wrists, each engraved with the names of former Compact delegates. Her belt carries chalk, pitons, contract seals, a folding lantern, and a braided cord marked with colored knots. Her boots are iron-shod and patched with pale hide from deep cavern beasts.
Body Language
Vez stands with her feet planted as if expecting the floor to shift. She rarely points, preferring an open palm or a small turn of the wrist. During tense conversations, her thumb rubs the burn-glass along her jaw. When she has decided to act, she stops moving entirely for one breath, then reaches for the tool, weapon, or person that matters.
