Maris Caelum
Species
Dwarf
Appearance
Maris is a compact, severe dwarf with iron-brown skin textured like fine-grained basalt. Her face is narrow for her people, with a blunt nose, one chipped front tooth, and a pale scar running from her left temple into her beardline. Her black hair is cut close at the sides and gathered into a single braided cord behind her ear, threaded with tiny brass catalog rings. She moves with unnerving economy, never wasting a gesture, yet her hands are unexpectedly delicate when turning a brittle map or calming a frightened apprentice. The impression she leaves is of a locked cabinet that has learned to walk.
“Her voice is low, dry, and measured, with the clipped cadence of someone dictating a report while standing beside machinery. She emphasizes important words by lowering her volume rather than raising it.”

Distinguishing Features
A thin line of crystalline scar tissue glows beneath her left eye when leyline activity rises.
Seven brass catalog rings hang from the braid behind her ear, one for each archive vault under her authority.
Her left index finger is permanently stained blue from resonance ink.
She carries a broken miner's tally charm belonging to her dead brother.
Her shadow occasionally divides into seven faint silhouettes near unstable leyline sites.
Voice
“A restrained contralto with a dry rasp, like a file drawn across iron. Her rare warmth sounds almost startling because it arrives without warning.”
Clothing
Unadorned charcoal vestments reinforced with fine steel threads, layered beneath a sleeveless cuirass of dark arcane-steel. Her cuffs hold folding rulers, chalk capsules, and narrow strips of copper foil. A steel-thread sash bears the seven-point seal of the Crystal Synod. Her boots are scarred by mine dust and fitted with magnetic soles.
Body Language
Maris stands squarely, with her chin level and her hands folded behind her back. When angered, she becomes motionless except for one thumb pressing against the edge of her signet ring. She leans close only when delivering a threat or sharing information she considers sacred.
