Appearance
Kest looks built by hard labor rather than training: compact, dense, and slightly forward-leaning, as though she is always moving beneath a low ceiling. Her hands are permanently roughened by rope, brick, rust, and limewash, while the skin of her forearms carries pale chemical freckles from years of sewer work. Her movements are economical and oddly quiet, with each step placed after a brief test of the ground. Within a minute of meeting her, most people notice her breathing. It is shallow and almost soundless when calm, but turns into a dry, measured rasp whenever she feels cornered. The contradiction is her smile, which is bright, open, and almost hospitable even when she is threatening someone.
“Low, brisk, and carefully articulated, with the clipped rhythm of someone used to being heard over rushing water. Her voice becomes almost cheerful when she is most dangerous.”

Distinguishing Features
Her fingernails are permanently stained blue-black by mineral dye and sewer sediment.
A brass maintenance token is sewn beneath the skin of her left glove, and she touches it whenever someone mentions floods.
Her breathing becomes audibly measured and rasping when she is angry or afraid.
She smiles warmly at strangers while speaking in a flat, merciless tone.
Her boots have different soles, one made for stone and one made for wet iron grating.
Voice
“A dry contralto with a faint rasp, like cloth dragged over brick. She speaks softly enough that listeners lean closer, then repeats important instructions in a sudden carrying bark.”
Clothing
A patched dark-green gambeson under a sleeveless leather coat, waxed trousers tucked into knee-high river boots, a red cord wrapped around one wrist, and a hood lined with scraps of sailcloth. Her belt carries chalk, wire, sealed oilskin packets, and several city keys that no longer belong to her.
Body Language
She keeps her shoulders loose but her weight over the balls of her feet. Her left hand often rests against a wall or pipe to feel vibrations. When lying, she becomes perfectly still except for her thumb, which rubs the edge of a brass sewer token.
