Appearance
Kotek is a broad, compact human with the dense, work-hardened body of someone who has spent half his life hauling gates, bodies, and barrels through cramped tunnels. His skin has the gray-brown cast of a person who rarely sees open daylight, and his black hair is clipped close except for a stiff ridge above his forehead. He moves with an odd, careful quiet, placing each boot as though listening through the soles before committing his weight. The first thing most people notice is the little brass measuring cup he wears on a cord at his throat, polished bright only along its rim from years of worrying it with his thumb. His hands are scarred with tiny white cuts from rusted grates, but he keeps his fingernails meticulously clean. He looks built for violence, yet he handles frightened animals, children, and delicate glassware with startling gentleness.
“His voice is low, dry, and slightly rasped, with a careful pause and a quiet intake of breath before important statements. He speaks in short, practical sentences, but occasionally produces a startlingly poetic image about pressure, rot, or current.”

Distinguishing Features
A bright-rimmed brass measuring cup hangs at his throat and is constantly rubbed with his thumb.
He pauses after inhaling before speaking, as if tasting the air for danger.
The toes of his boots are stained blue-black from old dye runoff, no matter how often he scrubs them.
His left sleeve is always rolled exactly one fold higher than his right.
He smiles warmly while discussing money, but bares his teeth when discussing loyalty.
Voice
“A low, rasping baritone with a damp-stone resonance, preceded by a measured inhale and a faint click of the tongue.”
Clothing
A dark olive chain shirt under a sleeveless leather work coat, knee-high waterproof boots, a patched red sash marking old levy service, fingerless gloves, and a brass measuring cup hanging at his throat. His clothing is carefully maintained despite its stains, with every buckle and strap repaired using matching black cord.
Body Language
Kotek keeps his shoulders square and his chin slightly lowered, presenting himself as smaller and less threatening than he is. His eyes constantly flick toward hands, belts, and doorways. When angered, he stops moving almost completely except for his thumb rubbing the rim of his brass cup.
