High War-Chieftain Korash Ridge-Breaker
High War-Chieftain Korash Ridge-Breaker
At the table
Voice
A coarse, resonant rasp with a dry click at the ends of some words, as if his throat has learned to speak over falling stone and rushing water. His breathing is conspicuous before speech, but once he starts, his commands cut through a crowd without needing a shout.
His words emerge in measured bursts, shaped by a broad saurian throat and years of calling commands across noisy root bridges. He often begins with a short breath through the nostrils, then speaks plainly and at a pace that gives listeners time to consider the cost of what they are proposing. In battle his commands carry a gravelly bark; in council, his phrases are spare and anchored in practical images of paths, crossings, and load-bearing roots.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Korash begins by asking what route the visitors took and who else knows they are here. He respects direct answers, practical preparations, and people who share risk with others. Offer evidence that protects clan routes or helps understand the leyline surges and he will listen; demand unrestricted access to Moot territory and he will refuse. He may invite trustworthy visitors to a meal and ask them to teach a useful skill to the young hunters before granting deeper access.
Goal
Keep the Elder-Clan Moot's routes open and its clans united while discovering what is disturbing the deep root-strata.
Motivation
His loyalty is to the living clans and the promises that let them share a dangerous homeland, not to military authority for its own sake.
Appearance
Korash is a towering crocodilian saurian whose blunt, scar-free muzzle and pebbled scales give him the weathered solidity of a riverbank. His armor plates overlap like dark, ridged shells, rasping softly when he shifts his weight. A crown of petrified ironwood horns rises from his skull, each worn smooth at the tip by years of brushing through root tunnels. He waits with one broad foot planted forward and his tail braced against the ground, as if testing whether the earth will hold. People notice his pause before he speaks: a slow, rasping intake through his nostrils that sounds like a stone dragged over wet bark. Unexpectedly, he carries a small bundle of seed pods tied at his belt and remembers which ones each child in the Moot prefers.
Clothing
Dragon-turtle plate fashioned into a practical harness, reinforced with braided root-fiber and hide. He wears a weather-darkened shoulder mantle, a belt of seed pods and route markers, and a woven sash bearing the Elder-Clan Moot's travel knots.
Body language
He settles his weight low and forward, one foot angled toward the nearest stable ground. His tail remains planted when he is listening; its tip begins a slow sweep when his patience thins. Before a difficult answer, he draws a deliberate breath through his nostrils, then fixes his gaze on the speaker.

Distinguishing features
Personality
14 traits and drivesKorash is decisive when danger is immediate but slow to commit when a choice could close a route for generations. He treats ritual and old counsel with care, yet has little patience for ceremony used to disguise selfishness. In battle he is terrifyingly direct; after battle he checks on the injured first and remembers who needs food, warmth, or time alone. Grief makes him more cautious, though he will not admit that caution has sometimes become fear.

He closes distance with the hammer, marks the most dangerous enemy with his ancestral spirits, and makes himself the obvious target so allies can reposition. He uses Ridge-Breaker's Challenge to disrupt a packed assault, but preserves a retreat lane whenever possible. If the fight turns against his people, he withdraws last, not first.

Background
Korash was raised among the Elder-Clan Moot's route-keepers, learning the old chants that preserve safe crossings through the Verdant Heart Nexus. In his youth he believed that every danger could be met by standing firm. During the First Ley-Collapse, a root bridge buckled beneath a retreating clan. Korash held its near end while elders and children crossed, then watched the stone spans beyond vanish into a tilted dark. His older sister, who had taught him the route chants, was lost in the collapse. The obsidian war-hammer he carries was forged from a fragment recovered afterward, and he has never claimed it was made for him alone. The experience changed his leadership: he still meets threats head-on, but now insists on evacuation paths, warning signals, and shared route knowledge before any clan ventures near unstable ground. He serves as the Moot's military leader while trying to persuade younger hunters that caution is not cowardice. His closest adviser is a route-keeper who challenges his decisions in public, a custom Korash protects even when it stings. Now fresh leyline surges are tilting gravity along old paths, and strangers have been seen near the deep root-strata. Korash must decide whether to close those routes, risking the clans' lifelines, or allow an expedition to learn what is stirring below.
Role in the story
A formidable ally, political gatekeeper, or opponent whose choices can open or close the Elder-Clan Moot's routes. Korash can lead the party toward the Verdant Heart Nexus's deeper dangers, but he will not gamble the clans' survival for curiosity alone.
