Appearance
Cryd is a narrow, quick-moving child with a face made sharper by hunger and constant watchfulness. Their skin is weather-browned and freckled with pale flecks across the nose, while a thin white scar cuts through the left eyebrow. Their black hair has been hacked short on one side and left in a tangled fall on the other, as though a knife and a windstorm argued over it. They move with a birdlike economy, head tilted before entering any room and heels rarely touching the ground. Their fingers are stained with blue sealing wax, lamp soot, and berry juice. The unexpected contradiction is their immaculate hands: every night, they scrub their fingernails clean with a pin, despite wearing clothes that look as if they were dragged through three alleys and a chimney.
“Fast and clipped when delivering information, with route directions replacing emotional language. Cryd occasionally slips into a sing-song cadence learned from street vendors, then abruptly lowers their voice when mentioning danger.”

Distinguishing Features
A white scar slicing through the left eyebrow.
Blue sealing wax permanently staining the creases of both palms.
A tiny brass button sewn inside the scarf, taken from the missing parent.
Never lets their back face an open doorway.
Carries a faint scent of rainwater, coal smoke, and peppermint.
Voice
“A small, rasping voice with a surprisingly precise diction. When frightened, Cryd's words become almost inaudible except for names and directions.”
Clothing
An oversized brown raincoat patched with sailcloth, a faded green scarf wrapped three times around the neck, mismatched trousers tucked into cracked boots, and a leather message satchel sealed with red thread. The coat's inner lining is covered in tiny charcoal maps.
Body Language
Cryd crouches rather than stands when waiting, balanced on the balls of their feet. Their eyes constantly track hands, exits, and changes in expression. When lying, they become unnaturally still. When telling the truth, they fidget with a thread or coin.
