Petra Kaczmarek
Petra Kaczmarek
At the table
Voice
A newly deepened voice with a slight rasp, as if his throat has not finished adjusting. It carries the breathy catch of someone who used to spend long hours bent over a drawing table and the crisp consonants of Polish speech. He projects more strongly than he means to, then sometimes overcorrects and trails off mid-thought.
His Polish-accented Common is careful and image-rich, with the precise phrasing of someone used to choosing words for captions. He pauses to search for the exact noun, then sometimes lands on a vivid comparison instead. When embarrassed, he speaks too quickly; when discussing a story he trusts, his explanations become animated and detailed.

How to play them
Treat Petra as a capable but unsettled adult. Ask what he wants rather than assuming what his transformation means, and do not turn his crush on Nora into a joke or presume it is reciprocated. He responds well to concrete tasks, sincere curiosity about his drawings, and people who allow him to set his own pace.
Goal
Find a way to learn whether contact with his old world is possible, while building a life in the present that does not depend on becoming anyone else's legend.
Motivation
To preserve the people and stories he came from while learning how to live honestly in the body and world he has now.
Appearance
Petra has the startling, upright bearing of a figure stepped out of a village woodcut: tall, broadening through the shoulders, with a straight nose, heavy dark brows, and a jaw newly shadowed by rough brown stubble. His skin is pale with a wind-roughed pinkness across the cheeks; fine green-brown flecks cluster at his temples like pollen caught in damp hair. His dark hair grows in unruly waves, with tiny leaf fragments often caught in it after sleep. He moves in long, careful strides, as if continually recalibrating the reach of his new limbs, then goes abruptly still when listening. The unexpected detail is that he keeps a tiny folded paper puppet tucked into his collar and makes it bow to people when he thinks nobody is looking.
Clothing
A weatherproof, borrowed traveling coat with too-short sleeves, patched trousers, and practical boots. He ties a sketchbook under one arm with cord and keeps pencils in a chest pocket. A sprig of fern is sometimes tucked into his lapel, though he insists it got there by accident.
Body language
Petra's shoulders remain slightly tucked in despite his new breadth, and he often checks the clearance of a doorway with a glance. When embarrassed, he rubs the short stubble along his jaw, then stops as if surprised to find it there. His attention can become unnervingly fixed when someone tells a story, but around Nora he deliberately leaves space and avoids crowding her.

Distinguishing features
Personality
15 traits and drivesClever and imaginative, Petra notices small details in people and stories, but guardedness often makes him look more composed than he feels. He can be generous and patient when helping someone else, yet prickly when attention turns to his own body or confusion. In a calm mood he jokes in dry, precise observations; when frightened he becomes methodical; when hungry or startled by anger, he can snap before catching himself. He is trying to distinguish his choices from unfamiliar urges rather than condemn himself for having them.

Combat
AC 11 · HP 7 · 30 ft.Petra avoids a fair fight. He puts obstacles between himself and danger, uses his reach to shove or distract, and tries to create openings for more capable companions. He uses Green Snare to buy someone time or help the group retreat, not to pursue a trapped foe.

Background
Before the displacement, Petra was a freelance illustrator in Poland, making covers and small editorial commissions while devouring collections of myths and local folklore. He had a home full of marked-up books, unfinished commissions, and people he loved; the exact shape of those relationships is painful to recall because the new world has no way to reach them. The transformation happened during the first bewildering night with the displaced party. Still disoriented, Petra went with Nora toward the women's room, assuming habit and familiarity would carry them through the crisis. Only then did the changed body, the changed reflection, and the others' uncertainty become impossible to ignore. He remembers the embarrassment more sharply than the shock, and has since worked to ask rather than assume what makes Nora comfortable. Among The Seven at the Split Hearth, his new appearance resembles a local folk hero from stories he once read, an uncanny resemblance that has made strangers expect courage and certainty from him. He has begun sketching the hero's likeness, partly to understand it and partly because drawing is the one old skill that still feels unquestionably his. Now he helps the fellowship interpret local legends and find practical routes through unfamiliar country, while trying to learn what his Leshy heritage means without letting anyone turn him into a useful omen.
Role in the story
A displaced party member whose folkloric knowledge and sharp observation make him useful, while his resemblance to a local folk hero draws unwanted expectations and plot attention. Petra's personal story centers on grief, bodily change, boundaries, and choosing who he becomes.
