Aulun Saalemi
Ancestral Samurai
Aulun Saalemi
Species
Fox beast-man
Appearance
Aulun Saalemi is a tall fox beast-man with russet fur that fades into smoke-gray along his forearms, muzzle, and lower legs. His coat is unusually fine around the neck but coarse at the shoulders, as though winter has never quite finished growing there. He moves with a controlled, heel-first stride that makes his armored body seem lighter than it is. His upper canines show whenever he speaks, not because he snarls, but because his jaw naturally rests in a half-smile. When he eats, he turns his head slightly aside and tears food with small, precise bites, revealing a second row of tiny vestigial teeth behind the lower incisors. His most noticeable habit is checking the knotted cord around his left wrist every few minutes, counting its knots with his thumb. The contradiction in him is immediate: he looks built for intimidation, yet his hands are gentle enough to fold paper cranes for frightened children.
“His voice is low, measured, and slightly breathy, with a marshland cadence that lengthens vowels at the ends of sentences. He pronounces names carefully, as though setting each one down on a table.”

Distinguishing Features
A second row of tiny vestigial teeth is visible behind his lower incisors when he laughs or eats.
He repeatedly checks and counts the knots in the cord around his left wrist.
Tiny bells sewn inside his sleeves chime only when he moves his arms quickly.
His broad fox tail is tipped in pale gray and carries a faint scent of cedar smoke.
His armor bears dozens of narrow name-slips tucked beneath the lacing, each belonging to someone he failed to protect.
Voice
“A low, steady baritone with a soft rasp, like dry reeds brushing together in a cold wind.”
Clothing
Layered indigo robes beneath dark lacquered lamellar armor, with copper bells sewn inside the sleeves so softly that only he can hear them. His sash is faded saffron and patched with cloth from three different villages. He wears split-toe riding boots and a weatherproof gray mantle lined with fox-red wool.
Body Language
He keeps his shoulders square and his chin slightly lowered, presenting the impression of listening through his whole body. His tail remains motionless during danger but flicks rapidly whenever he is embarrassed. One thumb is almost always worrying the knot cord around his wrist.
