Nahrin Qastros
Council Registrar
Nahrin Qastros
Species
Human
Appearance
Nahrin has the compact, weathered look of someone who has spent equal time in archive rooms and on unstable docks. Her olive-brown skin carries a faint dusting of pale mineral powder around the knuckles, no matter how often she washes. Her black hair is cut to the jaw and held back with three brass document pins, each stamped with a different Ark Council seal. She moves with careful economy, never wasting a step, but when startled she inhales through her teeth in a sharp, birdlike hiss and begins counting under her breath. Her most contradictory feature is her gentleness: her hands are callused from hauling ledgers and cargo chains, yet she handles every cup, page, and injured animal as if it might bruise. Within a minute of meeting her, most people notice that she repeatedly presses one thumb against the pulse in her opposite wrist, checking herself without realizing it.
“Measured and practical, with a low rasp at the end of each sentence. She speaks quickly when explaining procedures, pauses before names, and becomes almost whisper-soft when discussing the dead.”

Distinguishing Features
Three brass Council document pins worn in her hair, each bearing a different seal.
A small square of blue sailcloth sewn inside her left sleeve, taken from the first refugee boat she helped evacuate.
A sharp inhaling hiss when startled, followed by quiet counting.
Constantly checks the pulse in her opposite wrist with her thumb.
Her hands smell faintly of iron gall ink, dried mint, and rope fiber.
Voice
“A low, dry contralto with a faint harbour rasp. Her vowels carry a subtle Levantine and Greek influence, while her consonants land sharply, as if each word were being stamped into a ledger.”
Clothing
A charcoal linen coat reinforced at the elbows, a rust-red sash filled with folded notes, soft-soled boots, a weatherproof satchel, and three brass document pins worn in her hair
Body Language
Nahrin stands slightly angled toward the nearest exit and keeps one hand near her belt pouch. She taps her thumb against her wrist when thinking, rolls her shoulders before delivering bad news, and leans forward with complete attention when someone mentions a missing person. When frightened, her breathing becomes shallow and audible, followed by a whispered count in Arabic numerals.
