Géraud
Géraud
At the table
Voice
A newly masculine voice still settling into its lower register, with a slight rasp from cold air and too many hours speaking over wind. He articulates clearly and clips unnecessary words, especially when giving directions. His voice catches on certain old habits of phrasing, which he notices before anyone else does.
His phrasing is economical and concrete, shaped by years of giving clear instructions over noisy lines. He often confirms a detail before moving on and describes locations by landmarks rather than formal names. When discussing his former life, he speaks in exact sensory facts, not in metaphors.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Approach Géraud with a concrete need and he will become brisk, attentive, and generous. He responds poorly to interrogation about his past, but may open up if someone shares a small vulnerability without demanding a confession in return. He respects clear boundaries and will stop using Drowse Press if asked.
Goal
Keep the Far-Seven's mountain routes open through winter, find a safe way to preserve proof of his former life, and build a present life that belongs to him rather than merely serving as evidence of the old one.
Motivation
To make sure nobody is left without help simply because they are far from a road, a doctor, or someone willing to believe them.
Appearance
A human-looking young man with wind-reddened cheeks, dark hair that springs up in stubborn curls, and the first uneven shadow of a moustache. His face still has a softness that clashes with the newly squared line of his jaw. He walks with a dispatcher's quick, economical purpose, always angling his body toward the nearest exit or the person who needs help. In a dim room, his shadow can acquire the hump and branching horn-shape of an Alpine Alp, even when he stands straight. He keeps his hair carefully combed but cannot stop rubbing his upper lip when the new stubble catches his fingers. The unexpected detail: he hoards tiny scraps of ordinary paper and folds them into elaborate, precise little boats.
Clothing
A patched charcoal wool coat with a high collar, a faded blue scarf, sturdy trousers, and boots repaired with different-colored thread. He carries a small dispatch satchel with its buckle polished by constant use.
Body language
He leans toward whoever is speaking as if listening through a bad connection, then keeps his feet pointed toward the route out. Under stress, he presses his thumb against the side of his index finger as though operating an unseen switch. When he is comfortable, he sits on his hands to stop himself from fussing with his clothes.

Personality
16 traits and drivesGéraud is tender with frightened people but brisk with anyone wasting precious time. He can sound almost mechanical when organizing a crisis, yet afterward he remembers small comforts such as who hates bitter tea. He wants to trust his new companions but guards the truth of his old life as if it were both a keepsake and contraband.

Combat
AC 10 · HP 5 · 30 ft.Géraud is a level-zero, noncombatant NPC. He avoids direct confrontation, puts furniture or terrain between himself and danger, and tries to get others to safety. He uses his walking stick only to create an opening to flee. Drowse Press is useful only against someone already sleeping and should not be treated as a reliable combat disable.

Background
Before awakening in the fractured Alpine borderlands, Géraud was a woman who worked night shifts as an emergency dispatcher. She remembers the old life without confusion: the station's sour coffee, the headset pressing her hair flat, and the discipline of keeping her voice steady while someone else panicked. The first three women to awaken in male bodies were strangers brought together by a mountain shelter's aid network; Géraud was the second. The change left his former impairments behind, but the unfamiliar strength, appetite, sweat, facial hair, mood shifts, and sudden changes in sexual interest make daily life feel like learning a new set of instincts. He is not confused about being a young man now, and knows that local people will treat him as one. The Far-Seven, a dispersed mutual-aid fellowship, gave him shelter and a role carrying messages between isolated hamlets. During a winter avalanche, he had to direct rescuers through a storm with a cracked handbell and scraps of remembered dispatch procedure. He could not save everyone, but his calm instructions helped a trapped shepherd survive. Since then, he has been gentle under pressure and privately afraid that gentleness is only a performance he learned at work. He keeps a list of small facts from his former life as proof that it was real. His current troubles include a border patrol asking why he knows the routes of their night messengers, a fellow Far-Seven member who wants him to use his magic against a rival, and the need to decide how much of his past is safe to share.

A young ally and source of mountain intelligence whose quiet competence can guide the party through a fractured borderland. His hidden history can become a personal story about memory, bodily change, trust, and the difference between being believed and being safe.
