Eirunola
Species
Forest Gnome
Appearance
Eirunola is a small gnome woman standing in a puddle of her own making, soaked from pointed hat to buckled boots. River water streams from her copper-brown curls, while someone else's blood has dried in branching red lines across her left sleeve and the front of her vest. She has a round, clever face, a broad expressive mouth, and eyebrows that move independently when she is thinking. Her movements are quick but strangely careful, as if every step is being placed on the bottom of an unseen river. Despite looking half-drowned and bloodied, she keeps one polished brass button perfectly clean at her throat. She takes up more emotional space than physical space, filling silences with alert glances, tiny gestures, and the sense that she has already noticed every exit.
“Quick, exact, and melodic, with certain vowels drawn out as if she is testing how they sound in a tunnel. She lowers her voice near water and raises it sharply when giving emergency instructions.”

Distinguishing Features
A polished brass button at her throat that remains spotless even when the rest of her is soaked and bloodied.
A faint smell of river stones, lamp oil, and crushed mint follows her.
Her left sleeve is stained with branching blood patterns that resemble a map of canals.
She carries a red thread around one wrist and knots it whenever someone tells her a secret.
Her shadow sometimes appears to ripple like water a heartbeat after she moves.
Voice
“A bright, rain-worn contralto with a slight rasp, like a song remembered after being carried through a long pipe”
Clothing
A patched teal wool coat several sizes too large, a russet waistcoat, knee-length trousers, and soft leather boots filled with river grit. Her pointed felt hat has been sewn back together with yellow thread. The brass throat button is polished obsessively and does not match any other fastening on her clothes.
Body Language
She leans toward voices, even hostile ones, as though trying to hear them beneath running water. Her hands are constantly busy wringing out sleeves, tightening straps, or sketching tiny diagrams in the air. When lying, she becomes perfectly still except for one twitching ear.
