Appearance
Only Alte Eiche's face remains recognizably elven. It rests within a hollow in the oak's trunk, framed by ridged bark like a hood and lit from beneath by slow-moving amber sap. The rest of his body has become wood, root, and living grain. One shoulder rises into a crooked bough, his ribs form overlapping plates beneath the bark, and his legs descend into a braided mass of roots that disappear into the earth. His movements are deliberate but never still. Small twigs flex when he thinks, leaves shiver when he lies, and pale mushrooms open along his back whenever he becomes angry. Despite his immense, ancient appearance, his face is unexpectedly gentle, with soft cheeks, a narrow chin, and an expression more like a tired village grandfather than a primeval spirit.
“His voice is low, dry, and resonant, with the layered sound of wind passing through several hollow trunks. He speaks slowly when offering wisdom and abruptly when warning of danger.”

Distinguishing Features
His face is set inside a living hollow in an oak trunk, while amber sap pulses beneath the bark around his cheeks.
A pale shoot grows beside his left cheek, and he touches it unconsciously whenever he is troubled.
Tiny white mushrooms bloom across his back during moments of anger or grief.
His wooden fingers end in fine rootlets that gently probe the soil when he is thinking.
Birds and insects often land on him without fear, even during conversation.
Voice
“A deep, weathered baritone with the dry resonance of branches rubbing together in winter wind, softened by a patient warmth when he speaks to the frightened”
Clothing
A weather-darkened mantle of woven moss, old green wool, and strips of faded prayer cloth hangs from the largest branches of his shoulders. Small bronze charms, seed packets, and bone needles are tied among the roots. His clothing is carefully mended, yet half of it has been slowly absorbed into the bark.
Body Language
His face remains calm while the rest of him betrays every emotion. Bark tightens around his jaw when displeased, roots curl protectively around companions, and thin branches lower over his face when embarrassed. He constantly checks the growth of a single pale shoot beside his left cheek, touching it with two wooden fingers whenever he feels uncertain.
