Arannis Tidewake looks like a gust of salt spray given elf shape, lean and quick, with skin bronzed by sun, wind, and hard years on deck. His sea-green cloak is stitched from old sailcloth and weighted at the hem with tiny brass rings that whisper when he turns. One sleeve is always rolled up, even in cold weather, to reveal a pale forearm tattooed with a chart of a coastline that no longer exists. He moves with a sailor's easy balance, but there is something contradictory about him too: his left ear is fitted with a polished pearl earring worth more than his ship's share, and his bow is wrapped in rough rope instead of silk.
