Bei Go
Bei Go
At the table
“s answer as a quiet prompt, such as”
Voice
A dry, close-set rasp, like a pencil moving over rough paper, shaped by long years of passing information in noisy rooms and on wet docks. She articulates names and directions crisply, with no ornamental lilt. When she is alarmed, her pace speeds up and every sentence becomes an instruction.
She speaks in measured, compact sentences, with a faint dry rasp from years of whispering over damp ferry decks and crowded kitchens. Her words are precise without sounding formal. She uses names sparingly, and when she does use one, she makes it sound like a question she is checking against memory. Anger makes her quicker and more direct, not softer.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Bei Go asks about Glenn before she asks about the fog, then listens for what the other person avoids saying. She gives information in small, testable pieces and expects reciprocal candor. Honest uncertainty earns more trust than a polished lie. If the party shows concern for people affected by her work, she becomes a cautious ally; if they threaten her contacts, she ends the meeting and relocates them.
Goal
Find out whether Glenn is alive, determine who is using his signal, and learn what happened in the Fenwash without sacrificing the people who still depend on her routes.
Motivation
She wants the truth about Glenn, but also wants proof that she can face what she did without letting the truth endanger everyone still living.
Appearance
Bei Go seems to make a little more room around herself than her slight frame should require. She sits down, lays both palms flat on the table, and waits without fidgeting; even crowded rooms seem to leave a narrow, silent margin around her chair. Her eyes travel first to door hinges, window latches, and the hands of anyone present, then settle on faces. Ash-grey hair is combed straight back and tied at the nape, its fine strands resembling frost-dulled wire. Her skin has the cool, matte cast of old pearl, and her flat grey eyes catch almost no light. She moves with economical precision, as if each step has already been counted. The unexpected detail: despite her occupation, she carries a small, carefully mended red wool mitten tucked into her belt, too small for her hand.
Clothing
Practical midnight-blue working clothes, closely fitted at the wrists and knees, with a single silver collar pin shaped like a tiny unlatched window. The cloth is brushed smooth at the elbows from years of leaning on tables and railings.
Body language
Stillness is her default, but it is never slack. She takes up space through certainty rather than size, keeping a deliberate margin around her chair and placing her hands where everyone can see them. Her gaze maps exits and hands before faces. When troubled, she presses her thumbnail against the seam of the red mitten at her belt.

She dislikes being thanked, yet remembers every kindness. She can be both patient and stubborn, especially when Glenn is mentioned.

Combat
AC 16 · HP 59 · 30 ft.Bei Go avoids fair fights. She studies a room, chooses an exit, and targets an isolated enemy with Sneak Attack before using Cunning Action to hide or disengage. She saves Uncanny Dodge for a dangerous visible strike and Evasion for area attacks. If cornered, she teleports to cover with Blessing of the Raven Queen, then retreats or bargains rather than fighting to the death.

Background
Bei Go was born in the Shadowfell, where her family served as quiet couriers between isolated settlements. She learned early that a message's route mattered as much as its words. In her youth, she crossed into the Material Plane with a caravan and became an informant, trading in small truths that kept larger violence from spilling into the streets. Years ago, during a winter crossing through the fog-choked Fenwash, her partner Glenn vanished while guiding a group of refugees to safety. Bei Go delivered the refugees and told herself that was the only choice left. She has since built a web of contacts among ferrymen, night porters, and kitchen staff, but she still asks about Glenn before she asks about the fog. Now several people have independently reported a figure using Glenn's old hand signal. Bei Go fears the reports are bait, yet she cannot stop investigating. Her former handler, Rusk, wants her to abandon the inquiry before it draws attention to a route she once compromised. She keeps the little mitten because a child in that refugee group gave it to her after she promised to find Glenn.
Role in the story

- Faction
- Independent informant with old ties to a dispersed courier network; no current formal allegiance.
