At the table
Voice
His voice is dry and rasped at the edges, with a faint catch of breath from cold lungs that do not need to work. He articulates with a deliberate, old-fashioned precision learned from years alone and rehearsed slogans. When his memories falter, the careful rhythm breaks into short fragments.
A dry, slightly rasping German voice shaped by cold air, disuse, and years of speaking mostly to himself. His consonants are carefully placed, as if repeating lines learned from old speeches, while his breath catches on certain words when he is hungry. He calls people by formal labels until emotion breaks through and he uses their names.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Meet his claims with calm, concrete questions rather than ideological argument. He responds to practical help and direct boundaries, especially if Hajo is treated with respect. Do not assume his name, age, or story is stable. He may bargain for shelter, food, or silence, but a perceived threat to his bunker or friend can turn a conversation violent.
Goal
Find a way to keep existing without killing living people, while preserving the bunker and his bond with Hajo.
Motivation
He wants the discipline and certainty of an ideology to master the vampire inside him, but secretly hopes Hajo can make him want ordinary, human things again.
Appearance
A neat, narrow-shouldered youth with the waxy pallor of a body kept cold and dry. His skin takes on a faint, unsettling warmth after he feeds, as if a coal has been banked under it. He occupies doorways without seeming to notice, standing square and still until he moves; then his steps are quick, low, and soundless, with the careful balance of someone used to flooded floors. His hands are broad at the knuckles, nails scrubbed clean, and the pads of his fingers rough from prying at concrete, tin, and old locks. Unexpectedly, he folds tiny paper boats from any scrap he finds and sets them afloat in puddles.
Clothing
A clean, mended dark wool coat over a plain shirt, work trousers, and sturdy boots. He takes pride in keeping himself presentable despite living rough; the hems are carefully repaired, and he carries a dry scarf to cover the smell of the bunker.
Body language
He stands too close and rarely yields space unless someone directly asks. His chin lifts when challenged, but his hands give him away: the right thumb rubs the side of his forefinger, and both hands curl as if remembering a grip. In harsh, uneven lighting he loses his practiced stillness, turning his head in short, searching movements.

Distinguishing features
Personality
16 traits and drivesProud and meticulous about his appearance, yet indifferent to the disorder of his life. He can be unexpectedly patient with frightened people and then brutally categorical about those he has judged guilty. Alone, he is almost gentle with small routines; under scrutiny, he performs certainty. Around Hajo, the performance slips into sulking dependence.
- Alignment
- Custom characterization, not a system statistic: rigidly ideological and merciless toward people he labels corrupt, yet fiercely loyal to the one person he accepts as family.

Combat
HP 3 · Custom Other description: moves at an ordinary human walking pace; can lunge suddenly over a short distance in close quarters. He stalks isolated targets, uses darkness and cramped spaces, and tries to end a fight with a grab and bite. He is not a disciplined soldier despite his wartime fixation. A sudden floodlight, headlamps, or a hard transition from darkness to glare can break his focus. If Hajo is threatened, Wilhelm abandons caution and attacks whoever he thinks is responsible.

Background
Wilhelm's memories of his life before undeath are gone: not blurred, but absent, leaving him with a few borrowed-feeling habits and no certain family name. He remembers the First World War as a deserter's flight through sleet and shell holes. He tells himself he ran because the cause was already rotten, but the shame of leaving has never stopped gnawing at him. After he died and rose as a Nachzehrer, he began hunting, first from hunger and then from a conviction that predation could be made righteous by choosing the right victims. In the Second World War he joined eagerly, mistaking familiar uniforms and slogans for a chance to undo his earlier failure. The violence did not restore anything; it gave his hunger a vocabulary and targets. The decades since have stretched strangely in his mind, with wars and ordinary years sometimes collapsing into one long cold season. In 2026 he lives by robbery and scavenging near Berlin, sleeping in a partly flooded old bunker he guards with a possessiveness he cannot explain. He calls himself Günther when he wants a stranger to stop asking questions, though most people see a vampire before they hear a name. His one friend, Hajo, a patient repairman who has repeatedly let him sleep in a workshop during floods, is the closest thing to family he has. Hajo wants him to stop killing. Wilhelm wants to believe he can choose his victims and remain human, while his hunger and ideology keep making that choice narrower.
Role in the story
A dangerous, unstable local predator whose hatred has become a screen for hunger and shame. He can be an antagonist, a source of unsettling information, or a fragile ally if the characters protect Hajo and set firm limits.
“He remembers the First World War as a deserter's flight through sleet and shell holes.”
- Faction
- No current faction. He clings to violent authoritarian ideologies as a personal justification, not as a reliable member of any present-day organization.
