Appearance
Mara Tallfen is a wiry plainswoman with the alert stillness of a hawk perched in tall grass. Her skin is wind-burnished and leathered from years under open sky, with the texture of sun-warmed hide across her knuckles and cheekbones. She moves with a half-turned gait, as if always listening to something just beyond hearing. One sleeve is neatly mended in blue thread, while the other is scorched and stiff from an old fire, a contradiction that mirrors her careful, practical life and her refusal to hide what tried to break her. She wears a narrow silver prayer chain at her throat, but the charms on it are all tiny livestock tags instead of holy symbols.
“She speaks in short, grounded sentences with the cadence of someone used to giving instructions in bad weather. When emotional, her words get softer rather than louder, and she uses old plains sayings as shields for grief.”

“Low, dry, and steady, with a rough edge like wind over old straw; when she laughs, it is brief and surprising, as if she forgot she was allowed to.”
Clothing
A patched indigo field coat over a wool vest, practical riding trousers tucked into dusty boots, a broad-brimmed felt hat with a bent brim, and a belt fitted with shears, twine, a tinder box, and a hidden ash pouch
Body Language
Keeps her shoulders slightly forward, like bracing against wind that is not there. Her hands are always busy, folding twine, tapping a boot heel, or measuring distances with her eyes.
