Appearance
Marek looks like he was carved from rain-soaked fence posts and then polished by years of nervous hands. He is lean rather than broad, with long fingers that never seem fully still, and he moves with the careful grace of a man trying not to be noticed by his own shadow. His apron is immaculate at the front and stained at the hem with old cider, lamp oil, and a few dark splashes he refuses to explain. The oddest thing about him is a bright brass wedding ring he wears on a chain around his wrist instead of on a finger, as if he cannot decide whether he is widowed, guilty, or simply superstitious.
“Low and careful, with frequent pauses as though he is choosing each word from a shelf of fragile glass. When he gets excited, he speaks faster and his apologies start to pile up on each other.”

Distinguishing Features
A faint crescent scar through one eyebrow.
Ink stains on the inside of his left wrist from a hidden notebook.
A brass ring worn on a chain instead of a finger.
One ear slightly bent from an old tavern brawl he never joined.
A permanent half-smile that looks more like embarrassment than joy.
Voice
“Soft, dry, and slightly breathless, with a habit of trailing off at the end of dangerous sentences”
Clothing
A clean slate-gray shirt with rolled sleeves, a dark waistcoat patched at the elbows, a heavy leather apron, and soft boots meant for silent steps on wet boards
Body Language
Shoulders tucked inward, hands busy, feet positioned for retreat or a sudden sidestep. When anxious, he presses his thumb against the brass ring on his wrist and rubs it like a prayer bead.
