Appearance

Pely Copper-Link is a compact rock gnome woman whose entire presence seems wound around an invisible spring. She moves in abrupt, economical bursts, leaning toward sounds before she turns toward people, and often freezes with one hand raised while listening to a vibration no one else can detect. Her coppery-brown hair is gathered into a lopsided topknot secured with three lengths of stripped wire. A triple-lens jeweler's loupe magnifies her sharp eyes into mismatched, glassy moons. Her fingers are permanently stained with ink, oil, and powdered malachite, while tiny burns stipple her knuckles like constellations. She has a narrow scar across her upper lip from a ruptured signal tube. The unexpected contradiction is that beneath her severe technician's gear, she wears a delicate lavender silk sash embroidered with tiny moths, a keepsake from the sister she claims never to mention.

Height3 feet 6 inches
BuildSmall and wiry, with strong wrists, narrow shoulders, and the compact physicality of someone accustomed to crawling through maintenance shafts.
EyesBright hazel-green, magnified by the loupe and flecked with copper-gold when she is excited.
HairCoppery brown with singed orange tips and several strands permanently kinked by static.
SkinWarm umber with a faint copper sheen across her nose and cheeks from years spent near conductive dust and heated machinery.

Fast, precise, and densely technical, with sudden pauses when she hears an unfamiliar sound. Pely clips the ends off words when excited and mutters calibration numbers under her breath when frightened.”

Distinguishing Features

A triple-lens jeweler's loupe that magnifies her eyes into three overlapping reflections.

A thin scar across her upper lip from a ruptured acoustic tube.

Copper wire woven through her topknot like crooked lightning.

Ink-black fingertips and greenish oil stains that never fully wash away.

A hidden lavender silk sash embroidered with moths.

A habit of tilting her head toward walls when listening.

Voice

A bright, dry contralto with a faint metallic rasp, as if every word has passed through a speaking tube. Her volume rises sharply when discussing machinery and drops to an intimate whisper whenever she mentions the rogue signal.

Clothing

A heavy canvas technician's vest reinforced with thin brass plates, layered over a high-collared gray work shirt. The vest is weighted with tuning forks, frequency-detecting crystals, chalk capsules, spare wire, and ceramic fuses. A small brass caliper rests neatly in her breast pocket. Her boots have rubberized soles for insulated work, and a lavender moth-embroidered sash is hidden beneath the vest.

Body Language

Pely hunches forward as though shielding an invisible workbench. Her hands are rarely still: one thumb tightens a screw, one finger taps a rhythm, and the other hand guards the nearest tool pouch. When angry, she becomes unnervingly motionless except for the slow rotation of her loupe. When afraid, she reaches for the lavender sash beneath her vest.
