Caedorsyl
Caedorsyl
At the table
Voice
A rough, breath-driven voice with a faint rasp, as if every sentence passes through a throat accustomed to cold air and swallowed anger. Its work as a woodland guardian gives it an ear for small sounds; captivity made it deliberate about naming what it hears. It does not lower its voice when angry. Instead, it speaks faster, clips the ends of words, and lets its broad jaw work visibly between phrases.
Common shaped by long isolation: precise, old-fashioned without being flowery, and full of concrete images from the forest and its imprisonment. It uses short clauses when angry, with hard consonants pushed through its jaw. When recounting captivity, it slows down and names each sensation as though giving testimony.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Begin with a demand that the visitors acknowledge the old imprisonment. Listen closely for whether they distinguish revenge from justice. Caedorsyl can be delayed by a sincere offer to learn what happened, but it will not mistake sympathy for surrender. It responds to a clear boundary better than to flattery, and becomes dangerous when anyone touches its brass clasp or dismisses the captivity as a fable.
Goal
In life, make the ancient orcs and their descendants feel the anguish Sazkrel believed they had caused, while keeping its forest and surviving generals from being taken again.
Motivation
To make suffering visible, remembered, and impossible to dismiss, even when that conviction turns into cruelty.
Appearance
A human-sized figure with the spare, forward-leaning posture of a hunter that has spent too long listening for prey. Its skin has the matte, damp texture of bark after rain, and thin red veins show beneath it like roots under leaf litter. Its jaw is unusually broad and works sideways before it speaks; when it laughs, its crowded, blunt teeth show, stained the deep brown-red of old berries. It wears a badly fitted coat that hangs too short at the wrists, patched with squares of hide and woven leaves. One immaculate object breaks the roughness: a little brass clasp, polished until it catches even the forest's dim light. It moves in abrupt, soundless starts, as if the world has skipped a beat around it. Its unexpectedly careful habit is to fold fallen leaves into tiny, precise boats and set them afloat in puddles.
Clothing
An ill-fitting, short-sleeved coat of weather-dark hide, repaired with mismatched leaf-fiber stitching. Twigs and seed husks cling to its hem. A small brass clasp is polished with obsessive care and is the sole immaculate piece it wears.
Body language
Keeps its shoulders angled as though sheltering a wound no one else can see. Its jaw shifts before difficult answers, and its blunt teeth flash when it smiles. It does not pace; it makes sudden, exact changes of position, then becomes still enough to resemble a tree stump.

Distinguishing features
Personality
14 traits and drivesCaedorsyl is intensely attentive to pain in others, yet uses that perception to find the most effective way to hurt an enemy. It can be patient and almost tender with frightened creatures, then abruptly ruthless if it decides their fear resembles its own captivity. It wants to be understood but interprets disagreement as a refusal to listen. When alone, it folds leaves into boats with childlike concentration; before a crowd, it speaks like a judge already certain of the verdict.
- Alignment
- Chaotic neutral, corrupted by ancient darkness and capable of cruelty without seeing itself as evil.

AC 17 · HP 178 · 40 ft., climb 30 ft.Separates the party with Root-Cage, then uses its howl to punish clustered or frightened opponents. It attacks whoever threatens its realm or its generals, using mobility and roots to control the field rather than trading blows. In its lair it exploits cover and vanishes among trees between attacks. It prefers intimidation and a declared choice before a fight, but does not bargain once it believes the other side intends to destroy its home.

Background
Caedorsyl was once a fey guardian of a deep woodland, twin to the being later known as Gargas's Patron. Ancient orcs captured it with cold iron and kept it bound through years of torment. It remembers the imprisonment as a deliberate attempt to erase its people and home; the orcs' account, if any survived, did not reach it. When an ancient darkness seeped into its prison, Caedorsyl's grief hardened into a power that could preserve bodies, conceal a lair, and twist forest life. It built a hidden realm over the wound in the land and opened the Khesarah Kudlolee gate, letting vrocks cross into the world. Its long-lived generals were both servants and fellow captives, held in a magic that Caedorsyl called protection. Draak's testimony exposed its imprisonment and twinship. In its final confrontation with the Avengers, Caedorsyl argued that agony, despair, or oblivion were the only honest choices left. The Rune-Tide Branch shattered its realm; the Avengers killed it in session 63. Its death began the retreat of corruption in Bloodleaf Valley, ended the orcs' supernatural urge to kill, and coincided with the destruction of the gate and old settlement. Its remains yielded the Crown of Whispers, God's Heart, and five Seeds of Chaos. The Crown and Heart retained dangerous influence, while the Seeds were judged comparatively safe. Caedorsyl's story is over, but the consequences of its choices remain active.
