Species
Human
Appearance
Bren Kalt looks less like a warrior than a verdict that learned to walk. His skin has the dry, finely textured pallor of old parchment, while his close-cropped iron-gray hair lies so neatly that it appears painted into place. His jaw is broad and square, and when he eats or laughs, his unusually even teeth show a narrow line of silver caps, each engraved with a tiny filing code. He smells distinctly of cedar oil, cold iron, and bitter orange peel, a scent he knows perfectly well and deliberately cultivates because people tend to speak more carefully around it. His movements are polished and economical, but his left shoulder occasionally rolls with the loose ease of a dockworker, an unexpected remnant of the rough childhood he pretends never happened. He leaves behind the impression of immaculate control with something feral carefully locked beneath it.
“His speech is precise, low, and formally courteous. He favors legal metaphors, conditional statements, and sentences that sound harmless until their implications settle.”

Distinguishing Features
His silver-capped teeth are visible whenever he smiles, creating the unsettling impression of a locked filing cabinet opening.
He smells strongly of cedar oil, cold iron, and bitter orange peel, and he refreshes the scent before difficult meetings.
His fingernails are stained dark red from sealing wax, though he keeps them meticulously trimmed.
He wears a brass keyhole-shaped brooch over his heart, but no key has ever been seen to fit it.
He moves with courtly precision until threatened, when his stance abruptly becomes low, loose, and streetwise.
Voice
“A dry baritone with a faint rasp, like a quill dragged across thick paper. He speaks softly enough that listeners lean toward him, then makes them regret doing so.”
Clothing
He wears a charcoal military coat with a high collar, close-fitted black trousers, polished riding boots, and a sleeveless cream-colored archivist's mantle stitched with red security bands. A dozen small brass seals hang from his belt. His gloves are pale gray on the left hand and black on the right, marking which hand may handle original documents and which may handle weapons.
Body Language
Bren stands with his hands folded behind his back and his chin slightly lowered, giving the impression that everyone else is being examined. He rarely points. Instead, he turns his whole body toward a person with deliberate precision. When genuinely angry, he becomes perfectly still except for a slow flex of his jaw.
