Appearance
Maevara is a tall, narrow woman whose movements are slow without ever seeming hesitant. Her olive-brown skin has been roughened by years of caravan dust, bitter wind, and the fine green powder used in cult rituals, leaving her knuckles dry and faintly stained at the creases. Her dark auburn hair is braided into seven thin ropes, each threaded with a different dull metal bead. She has heavy-lidded hazel eyes that seem warm until she stops blinking. Within a minute of meeting her, most people notice that she repeatedly presses two fingers beneath her sternum, as if checking whether something is moving there. She dresses like a wealthy traveler, but her boots are patched, her cuffs are frayed, and her hands smell faintly of vinegar and crushed mint. The unexpected contradiction is her smile: when she is being kind, it looks practiced and predatory, while her rare moments of genuine amusement make her appear almost shy.
“Low, measured, and intimate. Maevara speaks as though every conversation is taking place beside a sleeping infant.”

Distinguishing Features
Seven thin braids, each marked by a different dull metal bead
Two fingers habitually pressed beneath her sternum to check for movement
Green ritual powder settled permanently into the lines of her knuckles
A patient smile that becomes more unsettling the longer it remains
A jade scarf that makes a faint whispering sound when she turns her head
Voice
“A soft alto with a dry, almost affectionate cadence. Her voice becomes warmer when she lies and flatter when she tells the truth.”
Clothing
A deep green wool coat with a high wrapped collar, layered over a cream linen shirt and fitted brown trousers. Her coat is fastened with polished bone toggles engraved with tiny spirals. She wears soft traveling boots, a broad belt of sealed pouches, and a jade-colored scarf that smells of mint, vinegar, and smoke.
Body Language
Maevara sits perfectly upright with her hands folded over her abdomen. She tilts her head when listening, but never toward the speaker. Instead, she angles her ear slightly away, as if concentrating on a quieter voice beneath the conversation. When threatened, she becomes very still except for two fingers tapping a slow rhythm against her ribs.
