Appearance
Neska Tal is a compact, hard-muscled woman whose presence feels larger than her body. She stands with her weight slightly forward, as if every conversation might become a charge. Her skin is deep copper-brown and usually dusted with fine gray grit from the roads beyond the faction's camps. Her shaved temples frame a heavy fall of black hair braided with red cord, bone beads, and tiny brass tags stamped with the names of people she has defeated in arguments, contests, or combat. She grooms the braid with almost ceremonial care, yet leaves the rest of herself smelling of smoke, iron, and bitter herbs. Her movements are quick and economical, but she sometimes freezes completely in the middle of a gesture, unnervingly still until someone looks away. The contradictory impression is striking: she looks like a neglected road-warrior while maintaining the fastidious ritual of a noble preparing for court.
“Her speech is rapid, blunt, and vividly practical. She uses jokes to test confidence, proverbs only to mock them, and precise logistical language when angry.”

Distinguishing Features
A red cord is braided into her hair for every person she has publicly defended against a superior.
Her braid is decorated with brass identity tags rather than jewelry.
She has unusually clean, carefully filed nails despite her rough clothing and constant travel.
Her boots make a faint metallic click because she has sewn thin armor plates beneath the soles.
She carries herself with sudden, startling stillness whenever someone invokes tradition.
Voice
“A low, smoky contralto with a dry edge. She can make a whisper sound like an order and a laugh sound like the beginning of a riot.”
Clothing
A sleeveless charcoal coat stitched from mismatched hide panels, wrapped forearms, loose sand-colored trousers, and red-soled boots. She wears a faded ceremonial sash taken from a defeated First Hand, cut into strips and used as belt ties.
Body Language
Neska leans into conversations as though trying to physically overpower hesitation. Her left thumb repeatedly rubs the brass tags in her braid when she is calculating. When truly angry, she stops moving entirely except for one slow tightening of her jaw.
