Bori Varga
Bori Varga
At the table
“That street is running high today.”
Voice
A quick, slightly rough voice shaped by shouting over rain and working around soot. Her words land with the directness of someone giving directions on a slick stair: clear, economical, and attentive to what the listener might miss.
Her voice has a slight rasp from calling directions through rain and chimney smoke. She clips the ends of urgent instructions and gives street names a precise, local cadence. When telling a story, she pauses to check whether listeners are following the route before continuing.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Begin with practical assistance or a useful bit of local knowledge. Bori tests strangers with small questions about where they have been and what they noticed. She warms to people who protect bystanders and share information plainly. Threats make her evasive rather than submissive.
Goal
Find proof that the watch's concealed rooftop route is still being used and expose the people profiting from it without making the tenants pay the price.
Motivation
Protect the people whose homes and shortcuts are treated as disposable, while proving to herself that speaking up can do more good than harm.
Appearance
A petite young woman with rain-pink cheeks and a compact, spring-loaded way of standing, as if the next stair is already under her foot. Damp brown curls cling in hooks across her forehead. Her hazel eyes catch lamplight in amber flecks, and her guarded half-smile appears a beat before she decides whether she trusts someone. Her skin is weathered by city rain: the backs of her hands are ruddy and faintly rough, while her cheeks shine with cold damp. She smells unmistakably of wet wool, chimney soot, and the sharp green scent of crushed mint; she knows about the mint, but insists the soot is just the city.
Clothing
Neat linen city clothes, brown trousers, sturdy dark boots, and a plain grey weatherproof cloak. A tiny polished brass swallow charm is fastened at her turned cuff.
Body language
Keeps her shoulders tucked against the weather, but balances on the balls of her feet. One hand often rests lightly on a rail or wall, ready to pivot away. When she is listening closely, her eyes track hands and exits before returning to a speaker.

AC 10 · HP 4 · 30 ft.Bori avoids a fair fight. She uses doorways, stairs, and rooftop edges to break line of sight, throws a dart only to make an opening, and prioritizes escape or getting bystanders out of danger. She surrenders if cornered and outmatched.

Background
Bori grew up in the cramped rooms above a drainwright's shop, learning which roofs held weight and which downspouts could carry a person quietly. Her mother, Jessa, tended a tiny roof garden and taught Bori to read weather from the smell of brick. At seventeen, Bori found a child stranded on a flooded roof during a sudden storm. She crossed a slick gutter to reach him, but the rescue drew the attention of a watch patrol that had been using the rooftop route to move confiscated goods. Bori named the officer who ordered the route sealed, and the resulting inquiry cost her mother her garden lease. The child lived, and the two still exchange notes, but Bori carries guilt over the neighbors who lost access to their roofs. Now she runs errands and carries messages between tenants, while trying to prove that the patrol's hidden route is still being used. Her mother wants her to stop meddling; an old drainwright named Ojo quietly feeds her clues; and the child she saved, now a young apprentice called Tavi, has begun asking questions of his own.
