Appearance
A weathered woman in her late forties, Zara carries herself like a mast that has survived too many hurricanes. Sun-darkened skin creases around piercing blue eyes, while salt-white hair hangs in four tight braids bound with copper rings and faded blue thread. Her tricorn hat sits low over one brow, its blue feather battered into a crooked hook by years of rain. She moves with a rolling, economical stride even on solid ground, one hand often hovering near a cutlass hilt as if the deck might suddenly pitch. Her face is scarred across the left cheek by a boarding hook, yet her hands are unexpectedly delicate, with neatly trimmed nails and a habit of carefully mending torn sailcloth herself. She leaves behind the impressions of brine, lamp oil, and crushed juniper.
“Her voice is low, roughened by years of shouting over surf, yet unexpectedly musical when she speaks to children or frightened sailors. She rolls certain s sounds sharply and clips the ends of sentences like rope under a knife.”

Distinguishing Features
A pale hook-shaped scar across her left cheek.
Four salt-white braids threaded with copper rings and blue cord.
A blue feather in her tricorn hat, repaired with visible stitches.
A missing tip on her right little finger, lost to a snapped marlinspike.
A faint smell of juniper clinging to her coat.
Voice
“A weathered contralto with a salt-gravel edge, carrying easily across a deck and dropping to a dangerous whisper when she is most serious.”
Clothing
A dark teal captain's coat with brass toggles, a cream linen shirt open at the throat, weather-stained trousers tucked into high leather boots, a red sash carrying spare cord and lockpicks, fingerless gloves, and a battered tricorn hat crowned by a blue feather.
Body Language
Zara stands with her weight balanced as if on a moving deck, shoulders loose and chin lifted. When angry, she becomes very still and taps one thumb against the guard of her left cutlass. When moved, she looks toward the horizon instead of the person who caused the emotion.
