Pinch Ember-Gasp
Species
Cinderclaw, Forge-Kin
Appearance
Pinch Ember-Gasp is a compact Cinderclaw with charcoal-black scales that drink in the furnace light, making the orange glow along his shoulders seem painted on. He stands with his weight shifted forward onto the balls of his feet, as if every moment of stillness is only the breath before a sprint toward a failing machine. His snout is narrow, his jaw unusually square, and his eyes gleam amber behind thick glass heat-goggles marked with tiny white calibration lines. His scales smell of hot iron, bitter oil, and cinnamon bark from the chewable cooling pellets he keeps between his teeth. The unexpected softness in him is visible in his careful hands, which are broad-palmed and almost delicate despite years of lifting molds and furnace doors. When he speaks to frightened apprentices, he lowers himself until they are eye to eye, while continuing to count cooling intervals under his breath.
“Clipped and precise, with a rasping undertone like a file drawn across cooling metal. He pauses before important words to check his memory, then delivers them with the finality of a stamped inspection mark.”

Distinguishing Features
Amber eyes visible through square-lensed heat-goggles marked with hand-painted calibration lines.
A brass pressure gauge is mounted beside his left shoulder and ticks softly whenever he is under stress.
His claws are capped with replaceable ceramic thimbles, each stamped with a different inspection symbol.
His soot carries a faint cinnamon scent from cooling pellets he chews during long shifts.
He keeps his weight forward even while resting, giving the impression that he is perpetually about to bolt toward a crisis.
Voice
“A dry, gravelly rasp with a soft clicking undertone from his jaw plates. When giving safety instructions, his voice becomes calm and nearly soothing. When a furnace fails, it sharpens into a shrill metallic bark.”
Clothing
A heavy leather welding harness reinforced with overlapping brass plates, lined with crucible tongs, ceramic wedges, wire spools, and folded heat cloth. He wears soot-dark work trousers, split-toed forge boots, thick wrist wraps, and a ledger scroll secured in a metal tube across his back. His glass heat-goggles remain pushed onto his brow except during active pours.
Body Language
Pinch leans forward when listening, with one hand resting on a tool or railing and the other tracing invisible calculations against his palm. While waiting, he balances on one foot and gently rocks the other heel against the floor in time with nearby machinery. His tail makes short, irritated taps whenever quotas are mentioned.
