Fennick Cog-Whisper
Species
Rock Gnome
Appearance
Fennick is a wiry rock gnome built like a bent sewing needle, all narrow shoulders, quick elbows, and restless fingers. His smoke-grey hair rises in uneven static-charged tufts, with several strands permanently singed bronze at the tips. Wide, fever-bright eyes peer through hinged multi-magnifying loupes that click and rotate whenever he becomes interested or alarmed. Copper acoustic tubes cross his back like the ribs of a mechanical insect, each one dented, polished, or patched according to a different emergency. He moves in abrupt little starts, leaning forward before the rest of his body catches up, yet his hands become almost impossibly gentle when handling delicate machinery. The unexpected contradiction is that beneath his frantic exterior, he can sit perfectly motionless for hours while listening to a single distant sound.
“His voice is a rapid, papery whisper punctuated by sudden clear bursts of volume. He clicks his tongue to imitate signals, stretches technical words into soothing syllables, and lowers his voice whenever discussing anything he considers dangerous.”

Distinguishing Features
Hinged multi-magnifying loupes that rotate independently over his eyes.
A left ear fitted with a small copper resonance cup after years of signal exposure.
A tuning fork permanently fastened to his belt, which he rings against metal when thinking.
Smoke-grey hair with bronze singe marks and a faint smell of cedar oil, hot wire, and rain.
A collection of tiny numbered scars across both fingertips from experimental signal coils.
Voice
“A fast, breathy whisper with a metallic overtone, as though every sentence is passing through a small brass speaking tube.”
Clothing
A heavy russet leather technician's jerkin lined with spare wire, vacuum tubes, folded schematics, ceramic fuses, and tiny labeled screws. He wears reinforced charcoal trousers, soft-soled work boots, fingerless gloves, a copper tool harness, and a weatherproof green cloak cut short to avoid catching on machinery.
Body Language
Fennick leans toward every speaker, wire, and living person as if trying to catch a secret before it escapes. His hands flutter constantly, but when angered they freeze against his chest with the tuning fork held like a knife. He tilts his head sharply when evaluating truthfulness and occasionally mirrors the posture of nearby mechanical devices.
