Nereza Cinderglow
Shrine-Keeper
Nereza Cinderglow
Species
Tiefling
Appearance
Nereza is a narrow, long-limbed tiefling whose presence seems to make rooms quieter. Her horns sweep backward in uneven spirals, one polished smooth by years of touch and the other chipped near the base. Her skin has the matte red-brown texture of fired clay, but a scatter of pale freckles crosses her cheeks like ash caught in rain. She moves with deliberate care, placing each foot as though avoiding invisible graves. Her tail is thin and expressive, usually wrapped twice around her waist beneath her robes. The contradictory impression she leaves is both fragile and immovable, like a candle flame burning inside a stone.
“Low, measured, and intimate, with a faint rasp like cloth dragged across stone. She pronounces names carefully, pauses before the final word of a sentence, and occasionally speaks in a whisper meant for someone standing just behind the listener.”

Distinguishing Features
Nine small bells hang from her belt, each associated with a particular kind of death.
The tip of her tail is painted with white ash every morning.
Her left horn bears a row of shallow knife marks made by refugees who used it to measure candle lengths during the first winter.
A faint scent of burnt rosemary follows her even when she has not been near a fire.
She has a pale crescent scar under her tongue from biting down on a copper coin while hiding beneath the chapel floor.
Voice
“A low contralto with a warm center and a dry edge, like a prayer spoken beside a dying fire.”
Clothing
Layered charcoal robes patched with mismatched funeral cloth from several cultures. Her outer shawl is stitched with tiny brass bells, many of them cracked. Beneath it she wears a faded red waistcoat, practical leather boots, and a belt carrying chalk, salt, thread, lamp oil, and folded scraps of names.
Body Language
Nereza keeps her hands folded around her censer staff, even while resting. She tilts her head toward empty corners when listening, and her tail tightens against her robes when someone lies. In moments of anger, she becomes almost perfectly still except for the slow swinging of one brass bell at her belt.
