Eirik Lind
Eirik Lind
At the table
Voice
A low, clear voice that sits oddly in his memory because he is still becoming accustomed to hearing it as his own. Its texture is slightly dry, as if shaped by cold air and long stretches of practical conversation. When calm, he articulates carefully; when startled, the breath catches before the words and gives his fear away sooner than his face does.
His Swedish is natural, with the local accent he woke speaking, while his English is fluent but occasionally organized like a lab report. He speaks in concrete observations and carefully qualified conclusions. When rattled, his breath interrupts the line of speech and his words come in clipped bursts; when comfortable, he allows himself dry humor and long, curious questions.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Responds best to direct questions and practical tasks. Treat his account of his former life and current body as his to define; do not make him prove either. If he becomes overprotective, naming the choice he is taking away from someone is more effective than mocking his concern. Give him responsibility, but make clear that accepting help is also allowed.
Goal
Help The Seven Marks survive without turning care into control, and learn what his Jotun heritage means on terms he chooses.
Motivation
To be useful without becoming indispensable, and to understand his new life without pretending observation gives him control.
Appearance
Eirik looks like a healthy young man built for long walks rather than a life of fighting: tall, broad through the shoulders, with a stillness that makes his sudden movements seem startlingly quick. His face is open and handsome, but he studies people with the absorbed, slightly worried focus of someone taking notes in his head. He walks heel-first and quietly, placing each foot as if testing a floor for weak boards. When unsettled, his breath catches high in his chest, then comes out in a rough, audible rush. Firelight throws his shadow too large against nearby walls, its shoulders and head exaggerated like a giant standing where he is not. The unexpected detail: despite his practical, protective manner, he carefully folds tiny paper animals from scraps and leaves them where frightened children might find them.
Clothing
Layered, practical wool and patched outerwear suited to travel in Sweden, with a scarf he can pull over his mouth, sturdy boots, and gloves he often removes to handle small tasks. His clothes are functional rather than tailored, and he keeps an extra dry layer wrapped in oilcloth.
Body language
He stands with his weight slightly forward, as if ready to catch a falling person or stop a door from swinging shut. His hands hover near useful objects rather than resting at his sides. When uneasy, he takes one careful breath through his nose, loses the rhythm, and exhales in a brief, rough burst. Embarrassment makes him rub his thumb over the edge of his notebook; anger makes his shoulders square and his movements abruptly economical.

Distinguishing features
Personality
16 traits and drivesEirik is attentive and generous, yet his care can harden into supervision when danger feels close. He likes evidence and repeatable routines, but is learning that people are not experiments and survival rarely offers clean conditions. With strangers he is watchful and useful; with trusted companions he can be dryly funny and unexpectedly tender. When someone is hurt, he moves before thinking. When rebuked, he first bristles, then replays the conversation in his notebook until he can admit what was fair.

- Neutral good

Combat
AC 10 · HP 5 · 30 ft.Eirik is not a trained combatant. He tries to identify exits, keep vulnerable people moving, and use cover or a distraction rather than trade blows. If Anja or another companion is in immediate danger, he may act rashly and put himself between them and an attacker. He avoids making claims about his Jotun heritage as a combat resource because he does not understand its limits.

Background
Before the displacement, Eirik was a laboratory assistant and an enthusiastic history buff, the sort who labeled every jar and kept reading after the rest of the room had gone home. He had lived as a woman. Then he woke in Sweden in a young man's body, with local language and accent already seated in his mouth, and a host of unfamiliar physical facts to learn: greater height and strength, a lower voice, facial and body hair, sharper hunger, and anger and desire that sometimes arrive before he can name them. At first he tried to treat himself as an experiment, recording meals, sleep, weather, and mood in a pocket notebook. The method failed him: there was no safe control group, no stable routine, and every new danger changed the conditions. During a bitter night crossing, he stayed with an injured traveler rather than follow the safer route, and discovered the cold seemed to bite him less than it should. His shadow, thrown huge across the snow by a fire, frightened the people he was trying to reassure. He has not decided whether his Jotun blood is a gift, a warning, or simply another fact to survive. He joined the displaced fellowship called The Seven Marks as a careful observer and practical helper. He watches over Anja because the world is dangerous, but Kester has rebuked him for treating protection as permission to decide for someone else. That rebuke stung because Eirik knows it is sometimes true. He still keeps notes, repairs small things, inventories supplies, and tries to learn what this life asks of him without pretending it can be made predictable.
Role in the story
A grounded companion and witness to displacement: useful in the daily work of survival, emotionally complicated by a changed body and unfamiliar heritage, and a living reminder that protection can help or harm depending on whether it leaves room for choice.
