The Opening

Mara Vale has sent you a message after seven years of silence: “Come to the old station before sunset. Bring the words you would not say then.” At the station, the platform has become a sealed house, and Mara is waiting inside with every avoided conversation made solid around her.

— Hook · Confrontation

Set the Scene

At the abandoned station, the hero finds Mara seated beneath the dead departure board. Each blank panel displays a sentence the hero once swallowed. When the hero approaches, the platform folds inward, becoming a quiet house with one lit room and no visible exit.

Mara Vale

Mara approaches through a message and then waits in person. She is not pleading or threatening. Her stillness makes clear that the invitation is also a boundary: this is the last time she will ask.

Rumours

d3 · table
  1. 01
People say the old station has been hearing conversations from houses that are miles away.
  2. 02
Mara Vale once defended the hero when no one else would, but no one agrees on why she stopped.
  3. 03
The Ferryman can return any lost word, though never in the voice that first swallowed it.
Stakes

If the hero avoids the conversation again, the House will spread through Bellwether, turning every withheld truth into a place that demands entry. If the hero speaks honestly, they may lose Mara's closeness, but they can end the silence that has shaped both of their lives.

Ticking Clock·The last train leaves at midnight. When it departs, Mara will leave Bellwether, and the House will carry the unfinished conversation into the town.

Background Lore

In the town of Bellwether, difficult conversations do not disappear. They gather weight in the body of the world. An apology left unsaid becomes a stone in a pocket. A truth swallowed at a doorway becomes a sealed room. For years, Mara Vale and the hero have carried one such silence between them, each pretending its weight belongs to the other.

What the World Knows

The hero must enter the House of Echoes and confront Mara Vale, a former confidante harmed by years of avoided honesty. Inside, the hero faces a conversation that has become physical, chooses between two painful forms of truth, and must remain present long enough to hear what Mara has carried alone.
