The Opening

Across the continent, powerful people are using pieces of Vecna's body to erase witnesses, crown false heirs, and command the dead. Archivist Maelin Voss offers the party a fortune to retrieve the scattered relics before their owners reunite them at the Black Convergence. She warns that one of the relics has already begun searching for a new host.

Set the Scene

The adventure opens in the sealed reading room of the Voss Archive. Every book has been opened to a page containing the same symbol: a black crown surrounding six empty sockets. Maelin Voss arrives with a locked case, a map marked at six distant locations, and proof that one of the cult members has already murdered an entire expedition to protect a relic. During the briefing, the case whispers one character's name from inside.

Stakes

If the party fails, the six Parts combine with Vecna's Will and create a living vessel capable of rewriting memories, replacing historical events, and commanding the dead across the continent. Even success may permanently alter the characters' identities, reputations, or memories.

Ticking Clock·The Black Convergence begins after the party completes three major relic-site investigations, or after six in-game weeks pass. Each unresolved cult member accelerates the ritual and strengthens the final encounter.

Background Lore

Long ago, Vecna's severed Eye and Hand were hidden after the destruction of his first empire. In the centuries since, rumors claimed that other fragments of the archlich's body had been destroyed, but the truth is stranger. A secret society called the Cult of Liches recovered six lesser relics, each containing a metaphysical aspect of Vecna's power. Rather than serve Vecna faithfully, the cult's members divided the relics among themselves and used them to pursue personal schemes across the continent. Their selfish rivalry has created a trail of warped settlements, stolen identities, undead outbreaks, and impossible acts of espionage. The characters must hunt the scattered cultists, recover the relics, and prevent the six fragments from being reunited during the coming Black Convergence.

What the World Knows

The Cult of Liches is a splintered organization whose members each possess a fragment of Vecna's power. They have used those fragments for selfish and destructive purposes, but now their rivalry is ending. The cult intends to reunite the relics during the Black Convergence, an event that could place Vecna's influence inside a living vessel. Maelin Voss believes the party can reach the cultists first, recover the Parts, and stop the ritual.
