Recover the Stolen Name
Read Aloud
Shashik closes the ledger and speaks the character’s name in a voice that is not theirs. Around the Name Market, every sign loses one word, and nearby fey turn toward the character as if they have just met a stranger.
The Scene
NEUTRALBargain under magical pressureBase DC 18Stakes Without the name, the character remains themselves but cannot be properly recognized by the city’s fey laws, bargains, or gates.
20 to 35 minutes
NPC Goal
Keep the stolen name long enough to leave the city and avoid the debt that comes due at sunset.
Leverage
Shashik’s own name is also borrowed, and the party can expose the original name by forcing them to answer a personal question only their family would know.
Player Approaches
- Offer to take the debt instead of the name.
- Promise to retrieve Shashik’s original name from the Counting House.
- Invoke the character’s deeds as proof that a name cannot be owned like merchandise.
- Threaten to reveal Shashik’s borrowed identity to the market.
- Ask the surrounding fey to witness a fair exchange.
NPC Gambits
- Trade a secret for the stolen name.
- Challenge the ledger’s ownership in formal fey terms.
- Make Shashik name the creditor and debt aloud.
- Turn the market’s witnesses against the bargain.
- Offer a new name freely, then demand the old one back.
NPC Reactions
- Friendly: Shashik lowers the ledger and offers a private bargain.
- Pressed: Shashik quotes the name incorrectly and summons witnesses to dispute the character’s claim.
- Threatened: Shashik declares the name forfeit and begins selling fragments of it to the crowd.
- Cornered: Shashik admits the debt and offers the creditor’s location.
- Helped: Shashik returns the name but asks the party to speak their original name once, so they can remember it.
