Appearance
Shasi is a compact, broad-shouldered human woman with the balanced posture of someone accustomed to standing before hostile crowds. Her skin is warm copper-brown, textured by sun, high wind, and years spent walking dry mountain roads. Her black hair is braided into two heavy ropes threaded with blue wool and tiny hammered silver disks. She moves economically, never hurrying, but every turn of her body seems to place her exactly where a conversation is most difficult to interrupt. Within a minute of meeting her, people notice the smell of toasted anise, lamp smoke, and wet stone clinging to her clothes. She knows about the anise and insists it comes from her tea, though the smell actually comes from a pouch of crushed courtroom incense sewn into her sleeve. Her unexpected contradiction is that her hands are exceptionally gentle and neat, while her expression becomes almost frighteningly severe whenever someone mistreats a servant, child, or animal.
“Her speech is precise, low, and breath-controlled, with soft hissing consonants that make even quiet words carry. She pauses before names and numbers, giving them unusual weight.”

Distinguishing Features
The faint scent of toasted anise, lamp smoke, and wet stone follows her everywhere.
Her breath is almost silent when calm but becomes distinctly audible when she is frightened or furious.
A thin line of silver ink runs across the pads of her left fingers from years of handling enchanted legal seals.
Her lower lip trembles once before she delivers a devastatingly precise accusation.
She wears one blue wool thread around her wrist for every witness who died before receiving a hearing.
Voice
“A low, breathy contralto with a dry warmth underneath. Her consonants carry a soft sibilance, and when frightened she draws breath audibly through her nose before each sentence. Her laugh is startlingly bright and brief, like a spoon striking a clay cup.”
Clothing
A charcoal wool coat over layered indigo and rust-red woven panels, practical leather boots, a white neck scarf embroidered with tiny water channels, and a belt carrying wax tablets, tea, sealing cord, and a plain bronze badge of the Civic Temple
Body Language
Shasi stands with her feet planted wide and her staff held vertically like a courtroom pillar. When calm, she touches two fingers to the inside of her wrist while listening. When rattled, her breathing becomes audible through her nose and her words arrive in clipped groups of three. She rarely points, but when she does, everyone in the room looks where she indicates.
