Sivren Shrelach
Sivren Shrelach
At the table
“They are an interconnected study in observation, nothing more that need concern the craft.”
Voice
A dry, papery rasp softened by careful enunciation, with a little whistle on sibilants when he is tired. It sounds shaped by years of conversation in galleries, counting rooms, and private negotiations rather than by command or military service. His name, Sivren Shrelach, is delivered with the same crisp care as the rest of his speech.
He speaks in complete, carefully arranged clauses, with the courteous precision of a man accustomed to discussing prices without naming his own limits. When describing craft his phrasing becomes concrete and attentive. When discussing his daughter, he shifts to household terms such as 'return,' 'responsibility,' and 'what is best,' as though word choice could erase her decision.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Begin with courtesy, a plausible artistic commission, and a fee substantial enough to make cooperation attractive. If questioned, Sivren admits he wants news of his daughter but describes retrieval as a family matter and avoids acknowledging her refusal. He may bargain, offer useful introductions or money, or hire the party under false pretenses. PCs can investigate the separated bird deliveries, compare his instructions with what he told Kelina, expose his purpose, negotiate limits, deceive him, or thwart him. Do not assume a fixed outcome: the daughter's safety and freedom, Kelina's artistic work and family life, and the party's choices remain central. Useful proposed clues include repeated requests for discreet delivery, bird components sent in separate consignments, a mismatch between the public art brief and the birds' shared enchantments, and travel inquiries seeking signs of one unnamed woman among Reacher routes. These are leads for play, not proof of a predetermined location.
Goal
Locate his daughter and have her physically brought back to his household, against her will if necessary.
Motivation
He wants to turn uncertainty into control. He believes that if he can locate his daughter and restore the household's former arrangement, he will have repaired both a personal loss and a public slight.
Appearance
Sivren Shrelach looks carefully assembled rather than imposing: a straight-backed man with a narrow waist, a softening middle, and a measured, heel-first walk that makes even a crowded room seem to have been arranged for him. His most arresting feature is his mouth. His broad front teeth show when he speaks, and he chews slowly with his jaw working sideways, as if testing the quality of every bite. His pale eyes rarely settle on a face for long; they travel to doors, windows, servants, and unattended parcels, inventorying a room before he offers a smile. He smells faintly of beeswax, paper, and the bitter citrus oil he uses on his gloves. For a wealthy collector, his cuffs are oddly ink-stained, a remnant of the cataloguing he still does himself.
Clothing
Well-cut Aundairian travel clothes in subdued wine, cream, and charcoal, with a high-collared coat, polished boots, practical gloves, and a small enamel bird pin. His garments are expensive but not ostentatious; the cuffs show occasional ink marks.
Body language
He holds his shoulders square and keeps his hands folded over the head of his walking stick. His gaze maps exits and objects before people. When someone mentions his daughter, his jaw shifts sideways and his fingers tap once against the stick, then he smooths his cuffs as if restoring order to a disturbed display.

When frightened by the possibility that his daughter is truly gone, he stops listening and speaks as if her return were already agreed.

Combat
AC 10 · HP 9 · 30 ft.Sivren is a commoner, not a trained combatant. He avoids a fair fight, uses a doorway or hired protection to escape, and invokes his social standing to halt violence. If cornered, he swings his walking stick or throws an inkpot to create an opening, then retreats. His leverage is money, documents, and contacts, not exceptional combat abilities.

Background
Sivren is a wealthy private collector from western Aundair. The source and legal shape of his wealth are intentionally uncertain: he speaks of family holdings, patient investments, and years of buying when others were forced to sell, but gives no consistent account of which mattered most. He collects small mechanisms, field sketches, and objects whose makers left a mark on them; he can discuss a hinge or a glaze with real warmth. His daughter, whose name and present whereabouts are not established, voluntarily left his household to live with druids in the Eldeen Reaches. Sivren experienced her departure as repudiation and disgrace rather than a choice. He sent letters, then paid travelers to ask after her, but has not found her. That failure changed his approach: he now commissions Kelina Bartell, a House Cannith artificer and mother living at Owl's Perch, to build exactly seven unusual mechanical birds. He presents the work as an artistic commission, asks for secrecy, and arranges separated deliveries. The birds' linked enchantments are intended as a divination and surveillance network to narrow signs of his daughter's trail. Their operation is a plot seed, not a guaranteed locator. Sivren has never met or employed Kelina's husband as family, and Kelina's daughter, who was endangered in an earlier elemental accident, is a different child from Sivren's missing daughter. Kelina's husband has taken on more daily childcare and ordinary workshop maintenance, leaving Kelina more room for her birdwork. Sivren's present problem is that his beautiful commission is attracting questions, while he needs the birds finished and wants his purpose concealed. His hired assistants remain unnamed until play. Owl's Perch, formerly Keldon's Crossing, is an established eastern Eldeen Reaches road-and-river waystation with Aundairian history; any scene or lead there is a proposed hook, not a settled campaign event.
Role in the story
Primary current antagonist: a controlling father whose social and economic power supports a deceptive effort to track and forcibly retrieve his missing daughter. He is dangerous through pressure, money, documents, and hired assistance, not through legendary combat ability. The PCs decide whether to investigate, negotiate, deceive, expose, or thwart him.

- Faction
- No established allegiance to a dragonmarked house or other faction. He is a wealthy private commissioner of broadly western Aundairian origin. His contacts and resources are personal and transactional.
